AGR has the same benefits as regular army active duty. The main difference it AGR is title 32 and AD is title 10. I agree it is good duty have been AGR since May and love getting ready for a Training NCO board on Monday.

One caveat: Promotions are a lot slow (at least in my State) the Mday or Big Army.

The Guard also has the federal technician program. I seem to see alot this post lately. You can find the tech jobs on USAjobs you have to be or become a member of the Guard to work in these jobs as it is a dual status position meaning you have to be and remain a member of the Guard to do them. Part of my platoon is made up of tech's.

Do a search for Army National Guard units. You may have to make profile and build resume information the site too.

The USAJobs website is awesome even with their basic search function. Just go to your state and pick the multiple locations you are interested in. The Technician jobs come up just as other federal jobs do. You could also attempt to look at your state national guard website as they should have a link embedded somewhere for these positions.

AGR and Technician jobs are completely different though. AGR jobs are active duty positions (mostly Title 32) where you get all active duty benefits including 20 year retirement. There are technically a few differences in command ability and other areas, but most are negligible to the everyday soldier.

The Technician jobs are civil service. You wear your uniform, but are not subject to the UCMJ or your state code of military justice. You receive no active duty benefits and have the same retirement as any other drilling reservist.

True...but the AGR is usually for the higher ranking ones as they cater to NCO's.

Technician jobs also have high ranking NCO's, we have alot of E6, E7, E8, and E9 working for our state. Tech's mostly fall under DOD federal civilian employeement

It really depends. I know some AGR soldiers who are specialists. Some soldiers also confuse these with the ADSW/ADOS jobs. Just take a look at your specific state and there should be a website with both AGR and Tech listings along with what the rank and/or MOS requirements are.

To get one of these positions does your MOS have to be the exact same as the position offered? Like if it's admin you must be a 42 series?

It varies...the MOS requirement will be stated in the job posting. It will say whether you must already hold the MOS, or whether you must be willing to reclass to the new MOS.

For example - people who go AGR to become recruiters did not already have 79R MOS....they were reclassed.
