Hello, I live in Southern California and I am highly interested in joining the ANG as an officer, and I am looking for advice on doing so. I have no prior service.

I have an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree in physics, mathematics, and behavioral science, and a master’s degree in science education. I am physically fit, have a strong personal background, have never done any illegal drugs, and come from a line of veterans. (My one transgression was a speeding ticket in 2000).

For those in the know, I have a few humble questions if anyone can help:

1. Are there many officer positions offered these days? I live in Southern California and am open to any of the bases down to San Diego, and up to and including Vandenberg. I would probably qualify for most of the officer positions (except of course the ones that require previous military experience).
2. How competitive ar officer positions? Are some more competitive than others?
3. After OCS and training, is it possible to volunteer for deployment?

Thank you for any responses.
