I'm doing an article on Guard service and have two questions for you:
- Can a person living in one state commuter to another to serve in the guard? For example, could a person living in northern Virginia join the Pennsylvania Guard? It's understood that he/she would have to commute to drills.
- What is the minimum enlistment commitment for prior service folks with four years active duty?
Yes, you can live in one state and be assigned to another states guard, and make the commute. It really doesn't matter where you live as long as you show up to drill.
I think if you only served four years on active duty, you would be obligated to serve at least four years in the guard, maybe more depending on the MOS you go into. It all depends on the 8 year service obligation of active and in-active reserve time.
I did almost 8 years of active duty, so when I originally enlisted in the guard, it ws for only one year.
I bet I couldn't even get the steak knives. I can't get a bonus, or a school, or anyting else worth a crap. When I extended last year, I got a freakin shirt and stupid ACU boonie hat with GO GUARD all over 'em. Not to mention they were made in China. Real nice. Freaking ******bags.
