A little background. I am the site administrator of an Army parents support site.

One of our members was the aunt of an Illinois NG Soldier who was killed in Afghanistan on February 24th of this year.

Tonight she posted this disheartening news on our site:

As many of you know, SGT Schuyler Patch who was KIA on 02/24/09, was from my family. When Sky's mom called the VA to inquire about his death benefits from the state (he was National Guard, Illinois) she was told the State of Illinois does not have the money to pay right now, maybe next fiscal year!!

The aunt is asking the members of our site to write the Illinois Governor to tell him that this is totally unacceptable (BTW - the Governor spoke at this Soldier's funeral).

Just wanted to share this info with other NG Soldiers and their families and friends.
