well i dont like the army very much honestly. i find it depressing to go to drills really. i wanted to join the coast guard before i went in but the recruiter got me with a couple of lies and the bonus so im here. Is there a way i can transfer or request to transfer to the Coast Guard Reserve?

I think you would have to get a conditional release, which has to be approved and there is no guarentee that they will.

Yes, your Army commander has to give you a conditional release. He don't have to, and probably won't if your unit is not at 100% of its authorized manpower.

If you are in the National Guard...forget it. The National Guard isn't conditionally releasing anybody because they are tryong to protect their dismal Recruiting/retention numbers. Try anyway I may be wrong

I know that is true in WY if you want to go to active duty or say Air national guard we will let you go with out a problem we just had someone in my unit leave to go active army got it all done in about a week and leaves on the 23rd of Aug they got a $35k bonus well it is really up to your state good luck

He got you there with lies? Yes it is messed up but YOU should have done research on your own!!!!

Now, keep your head up, the Sgt that said don't even bother if you are in the Guard- I am trying to switch to Active from the Guard and I talked to my NCO today and he said he just denied one and approved two conditional releases. So there is hope. Good luck.

I was reading all the posts and I am kinda confused... My husband is at AIT right now as Army National Guard, he is trying to switch to Active... So y'all think they won't let him?

To give some more info.... he left for BCT Mar 28 and stared AIT the second wk of June. His AIT is 19 weeks which will be over on 10/24/07.

He wanted to go Active from the start, but I was againist it, so now after all these weeks I have agreeed to go Active, but now I am excited. So I will be really bummed if he isn't allowed.

Please give me some input. Thanks!!!!
