Back in after a long absence. Didn't think I'd ever see the military again, but here we go. What award should I have received after 3 years of service and an honorable discharge? Would it be a GCM or is there a Guard equivalent?

There is an Army Reserve Good Conduct Medal (which is different from the Army Good Conduct Medal). The ARGCM criteria are similar to the AGCM - three to four years satisfactory duty with no record of disciplinary action.

You need to have been recommended and awarded the medal with orders cut, though. It's not automatic; you can't just slap one on because you think you've met the criteria.

I just re-read that and realized I left a typo that might lead to confusion. "three to four years" should have read "three or four years".

The ARGCM used to require four years, but it was changed to three some time ago to bring it in line with the active duty medal. The change was not retroactive, though. So, if your term of service was before the change, you'd require four years to qualify.

One more correction, if you enlisted for a two year active enlistment, you are eligible for the Army Good Conduct Medal at the completion of your 2yr enlistment.

There are also Guard equivalents, depending on your state. Each state has its own awards, so you would either need to tell us your state or you would need to look it up.

Here's a another good conduct question, I have a Marine Corp good conduct medal and am going to National Guard OCS, do officers wear the medal if they received it prior to being commisioned?
