The forum moderator closed my topic, claiming if I do a search for "going active" I will be able to find the answers I need; unfortunately I could find no such answers. Hopefully this forum, specific to the Guard, will be able to help me out... I am sorry if this has been answered many times before (even if you can link me to a topic where this specific question has been answered, that would be great), but I can honestly not find it anywhere on these discussion boards.
I signed into MEPS with the Florida Army National Guard on May 29th, 2008. I am set to ship for BCT on February 2nd, 2009... Now, if I wanted to change to Active Duty before then, what would be the consequences? Would I still have to get a conditional release? What about sign on bonuses, and all those things? Because I read online that if you get a 368, you are considered prior service... However, I haven't been to basic yet, although I am drilling with RSP (I've been to one drill so far.) So if I did end up switching to Active Duty before basic, my questions are what would the reprecussions be (if any)? As far as I know, you have to continue all mandatory Guard drills until you switch to Active army, and in my case I would have to continue RSP until Basic... Also, if I switch of course I won't have to pay any sign on bonuses back because I haven't gotten them yet (mine is 20K), so I'm wondering if I'm still eligible for a sign on bonus with the Active Army? What about my spot in BCT and such? As I said, I'm going to BCT at Ft. Jackson (for 68W) in February, and then Ft. Sam Houston afterwards. Thanks, and sorry for the question I guess everyone else seems to be asking! |

Did you ask your recruiter? You would have to get your contract changed. Also, did you try asking this question on http://www.1800goguard.com/forums/index.php ?
The moderators on this forum seem a little annoyed at moderating. The National Guard website has a great forum. |
