I recently enlisted with the ARNG last month,ACTIVE FIRST,and ship in may.I just found out my mother has terminal cancer,I really want to spend as much time with her as possible but still want to ship in may.I was wondering if I dont go active first would i lose my ship date and MOS spot.I understand I will lose the bonus but my concern is my spot at bct.I just want to do regular guard so I can spend time with her.Any help or extra information on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Also my recruiter told me I dont have go active but dont respond to this question.THANK YOU

You can cancel you going active first, and stay in the guard. You will still go to basic on your date but you will not go on active duty.

What you need to do is get in contact with your RSP unit and tell them that you do not want to go active anymore and you will stay in the guard.
