I just left Active Duty--am presently on transitional leave till the end of July--and am joining the Guard at the end of July with no break in service. Contract is already signed and I know my unit (though they don't seem to call back so far, I understand they're at their Annual Training right now.

So, does anyone know what the rules are for changing out issued gear? My little flyer from the Guard says there is a change out, but I wonder if it's a complete one, i.e., do you turn in all 4 ACU tops and bottoms and they give you 4 new ones, and on down the list? A buddy of mine says they don't do a complete change out. I wonder if it varies from state-to-state and unit-to-unit.

Not a big deal, really. But I did lose my Class A shoes, and I wonder if they'll just give me a new pair. That'd be nice. Big Grin

The unit you go to should do a clothing bag inspection and make sure you have all of your stuff. Anything that you are missing will be ordered for you, and you can also DX what you need to also. It's no big deal really. The supply sgt will make a new clothing record for you, and that's it pretty much. You shouldn't have any problem getting your new class A Low Quarters, other that a possible lengthy wait. Just get with your new supply personnel and ask them what they can get, cause sometimes money gets tight, and the ordering process can go in weird cycles.

Thanks for the info!--just knowing little things like that will help me to orient quicker when I arrive on my first day.

Another word of advice..........be patient with the guard. Not sure what type of active unit you were in, but the guard is a completely different world. You will find that a lot of stuff that was common place, and just happened on active duty takes forever in the guard. Procrastination is king in the guard.

Procrastination is king in the guard.....it all depends on your full timers, good full timers things get done....useless fulltimers, and its a horrible time.....it took me 3 plus years to get my Defense of Korea service medal.....

It does depend on the unit fulltimers. My unit....stuff happens very fast. Once it get to the state HQ.....it slows down. And there are other factors that play in that aren't in state control.
