I have read all the RE4 posts on here, and I think I know the answer, but just want to confirm.

I have an Honorable discharge from USCG, narrative "misconduct", separation code "JKM", reenlistment code "RE4". I have plead with the local State Defense Force, the Coast Guard, Navy, CG Reserves, and Navy Reserves, and they all said that RE4s are unwaiverable for any reason.

Can this be waived for the Alaska National Guard?

I do want back into the Coast Guard, but in my life, it is always best to have a back up plan. If the BCMR does not correct my RE4, I want to go into a service that will waiver me, then go back Coast Guard Reserves.

For me it is not because I am lacking employment or anything like that, but I actually joined the Coast Guard because it was something I believed in. That is still my goal. If I have to get a clean DD-214 by taking two years into the National Guard, then so be it.

I feel for you im Ex-Navy with an re-4 I now been in the Army national guard for 4years. I initially tried to go Naval reserve back then before joining guard passed MEPS about to take PT test then wham my recruiter got a call from the chief and said stop processing him orders came down that day no more re-4 waivers. my recruiter said dont worry he had a freind in the Guard (recruiter) i had to do a year then he said i could switch then. So yep they can do it. But to go active you have to go active Iraq or afganistan because active duty only recognize active duty re-enlistment codes. So im going active Army. Reserve will honor Guard time.

Lord bless

Call a NG recruiter. I had an RE-4 that was waved from the USMC. The separation code is what matters. If that is waiverable...the RE-4 is not an issue. If you don't get the answer you want...keep trying. Persistence pays.
