ASVAB scores are good for I think three years

They can be looked up for you whole career, but you can take the test once a month for 3 months, then you have to take a 6 month break.
Your recruiter isnt trying to screw you over. You CAN retake it. He just has to get you in to get it done.

There is a down side to retaking the ASVAB test. If you score lower than you did to enter the service and that score is not high enough for your MOS you could loose your MOS.

You can retake the ASVAB again and take the portion to raise certain scores. You would need to go to an active duty post and see the career counselor. Go to the library and check out an ASVAB study guide. In that book you will find the breakdown of what sections comprise the line score you are attempting to raise.
