I've reenlisted in the army NG about 6 months back, went to WTC etc and have done all my training. Now its time to do MOS training but it doesn't look like I am going to be doing that quite sometime. I am currently enlisted as a 68W but what I am wondering is if its possible to switch MOS's and if so, how would I go about doing it? If its not possible, I'd be glad to still serve as a 68W but after making a civilian career choice, there are a couple other MOS's more in line with that decision that could give me more training.

You will most likely forfeit your bonus if you do not complete AIT as a medic. Might want to ask about that.

If you get MOSQed as a medic and then want to change, it is entirely possible. You just have to talk with your chain of command and have the local recruiter checkout other units with open slots.

Then *I believe* its a matter of getting your chain of command to get the paperwork rolling.

Well, thank you for the answer. The thing is, I didn't get a bonus.. so I wouldn't really be forfeiting anything. At this point, the Army has nothing invested into me as far as MOS in concerned, and I have nothing invested.

I was in a similar situation. I enlisted last year dis the WTC thing and realized why I hated being a cook. I was not MOS'Q and was able to change to 31B in the same unit. As far as my bonus goes according to my RNCO I will still recieve it because I went from one critical MOS to another. Talk to you CoC if you want to be a medic then try to get them to slot you for school if not change, it is your career and if you are like me you hate to feel like your waste your time.

Since you are ARNG and have not been to AIT yet, you are in my situation exactly, except that I am a SSG. My MOS was contracted as 21U, with a 3 year $7500 bonus that was not MOS related. I think it is the standard PS bonus. My MOS has changed four times in the last five months. 21U went to 15P, then to 14J, then back to 21U where I had an AIT class date, then that was canceled in favor of 14J. All this was for reasons only my 1SG knows. I told him I was OK with any of these.

At your rank, they need to have an opening for the MOS you want. If they have that, and at PFC they should have MANY openings, you can change your MOS easily. Go see your 1SG and tell him your mind. He will pull out his vacancy list and throw some MOS's at you. Take your time and look into each one and make a decision.

Good luck. I re-enlisted April 12, 2007, grad WTC August 3, 2007.
