I realize that it depends on several factors such as MOS and the individual soldier. But assuming that the soldier was squared away and had great PT scores, hypothetically how long would it take to reach the rank of E5 assuming I went in with the rank of E3. I am currently looking @ MOS 12M firefighter.

In my company it was very rare that a PFC got promoted in BCT or AIT. Usually its the PVT or PVT 2 got promoted. Usually in your unit it will happen also if your active or not changes things.

I was promoted to E-5 in about 3.5 yrs. I know a LOT more soldiers hit that landmark in 4-5 yrs. There is a lot to it, having to do with slots available in your unit, promotion points and MOS. I was lucky enough to not be in a unit where people will get to a slot and rest on thier laurels for 15 years.
