I'm an Army Reservist really interested in the Kosovo deployment, which from what I've seen is a Guard-only mission. I remember a year ago that someone was on here asking Army Reservists if they wanted to jump on their deployment. Now, I realize that they are changing commands over there right now, but I was hoping maybe to be able to get in on the next one in the summer/fall of 2010?
How easy is it to get in on one of these as a Reservist, and more importantly, is there a list somewhere of deployment opportunities in the Guard? I know there's one in GKO, but unfortunately I don't have access to that. More importantly, is there a POC who deals with these? How far in advance do they know which states are rotating in?
I don't need anything specific (violating OPSEC) but general information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
The only way you get on a deployment with a ARNG unit is be a member of the ARNG. A member of the ARNG can deploy with another state as long as there deployable and a member of the ARNG. They can also request a transfer from one state to another in order to deploy with a specific unit in the gaining state. Being in the USAR, you can not be accessed into the ARNG without first being discharged from the USAR. See an ARNG Recruiter for assistance in completing a DD Form 368, Request for Conditional Release to Enlist in another Component.
