I am wondering if it is possible to get a Conditional Release from the Army Reserve to join the Army National Guard with time left on my contract.

Background: I am an E-4 with 4 years in the Reserve as a 21W (Carpentry/Masonry Specialist) I moved from MA to VA about 1.5 years ago. When I came to VA, I discovered the closest Engineer unit was a 4 hour drive from my home. I researched other units/MOS's in my area and joined a Public Affairs unit. 6 months into drilling with this unit, I was informed that I do not qualify to attend the MOSQ course due to not being eligible for a security clearance. I've spent the last 10 months or so in limbo as my current 1SG has been trying to find somewhere to send me. There are a number of units in the area, however none of the MOS's that I would qualify for interest me in anyway.

There are several ARNG Infantry units in the area that I would be willing to join and then reclass to Infantry.

What is the possibility of something like this happening? I understand that I made a commitment to the Reserve, however since the MOS I am qualified in is not available in this area, I think I would have a pretty good case to make for a Conditional Release.

Any thoughts or insights on this would be most appreciated.
