I can tell you it wasn't the Point Clear(mid 68-mid 69). I would remember that food spread. Most of the time all we got was fuel, water and ammo. I do remember one time coming out of one of the rivers with empty 50 cases all over the deck with the barrels still smoking and drooping and the destroyer had a stbd. list with the whole crew watching us come alongside. They thought we were all crazy and they opened up the ship to us. My needs were simple. Do you have any milk or ice cream? We traded alot of good stuff that day. VN crossbows, VC flags with chicken blood on them. They had just come on line and we were the first 82' that came calling. They ate it up.
I think the Cruiser NPN was operating in Div.13,Mekong Delta area at the time,The 82 looks like they painted the top of the bridge, cabin and ammo lockers white with the numbers painted over with gray,I'm like you I would have remembered that feast
Don't know if this helps at all, but we ran into the Newport News (not literally ) off of the mouth of the Qua Viet River in '69 (can't remember what month).
It would be interesting to find out what the hull number is/was since I don't recall any Cutter from Nam making it back to the States, that would be a great find.
OK I found out that the Lady B was the former USCGC Point Brown not a Vietnam Cutter But is owned by a Vietnam Veteran who served on a 82 Footer in Vietnam.
