I posted this link on Point-CounterPoint this morning and think that it's applicable for this thread also.

A booklet published by the U.S. National Park Service on the history of the 180' Buoy Tender can be downloaded in .pdf format here.

Note: This file is over 5 mbs and may take a while to download but with the text, illustrations and especially the line drawings, well worth the effort. You might want to save the file to your documents file for future reference.

Added a new section on tending buoys to the USCG's 180-foot Seagoing Buoy Tender thread. Been 37 years since I worked a buoy, but I think I got it pretty close to being right. Enjoy blackhullers this old buoy critter sends.

Now Hear This .. Deck Force To The Buoy Deck

The Evergreen was called "the evergone Evergreen"
I can't remember where I heard that, old age and experience doesn't include me.

I just have to say that reading these posts and links sure bring back a lot of good memories. I'll miss the Acacia, and hopefully get the oppurtunity to see her in Chicago.

Squiter,
The LAUREL is in Green Cove Springs on the St. Johns River. I served on on the MAD CRAB when she first home ported in Charleston SC from Portsmouth VA and we worked with the LAURAL on several ocassions. I drive out to Green cove once a week, let me know if you want a picture to see her just wasting away. It will bring a tear to your eye.

Wayne, I would love to have some photos of her in Green Cove Springs for our 180-foot CG Buoy Tender Board which is located here (http://usmilnet.com/smf/index.php?topic=11670.msg238609#msg238609)

My email: coastie6670@yahoo.com

THANKS .. Really appreciate it. Beer

Commander Ted Scheeser (Retired), a veteran of five 180s emailed me the other day to confirm that the ex LAUREL is located in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Ted talked with the LAUREL's new owner who said, "He was going to take her to Rum Key in the Bahamas and refit her into a cruise/treasure hunter/dive platform w/cabins."

Wayne Williams and Ted Scheeser

A sincere and heart-felt thank you to Wayne for the outstanding photos of the CGC LAUREL in Green Cove Springs, Florida and to Ted Scheeser for locating her for us.

Without your help gentlemen this update on the
CGC LAUREL
would not have been possible. I know our BMC is going to be thrilled to see some photos of his old unit.

Thanks again gentlemen ...... Applause
