Marshall I was never stationed at Whisky Island But. I was a reserve station Keeper in Cleveland and we the reserve training center has a 32 foot training boat that was kept at the station. Most of the Cleveland reserves drilled at the station one time or another. In 1972/73 a big storm off Lake Erie blew in and swamped the station. After that storm it went down hill fast and a new station was in the process of being built. Even though the station was right in "Downtown Cleveland" it was in the middle of no were.
I read somewhere (Jacks Joint maybe) of a guy that was stationed there as a non-rate. Pretty interesting account but he wasn't there long. I think it was sometime in the late 40s to early or mid 50s.
I was attached to Reserve Unit Cleveland in the early 80s. RU Cleveland was the former RU Cleveland M&R (maintanence and repair.) We used Whiskey Island as a work shop. You had to drive through the city garbage dump to get there.
