Hello everyone, this will be my first post here. I am an IFC specialist, maintainer, on the B1-B at Ellsworth, 6-year enlistee. I'm currently deployed but am still working towards a bachelors degree in elecronic engineering. I have looked into OTS in some depth and was just looking for some stories an advice on the subject. Though I would love to become a pilot, I imagine I would be of better use in developmental research (which I would enjoy just as much likely) for the Air Force. ECPI just recently extended their associates in EE to a bachelors, so the degree is yet to be approved by ABET, which concerns me a lot. At current pace, I'll have my Associates in avionics systems tech. in Jan 09, and have my bachelors in EE March of 2010. I took several CLEPs this deployment (42 credits worth), getting my CCAF out of the way. The one EPR I have is a firewall 5, and the next one will be the same likely.
So with all that, I'm just asking if anyone has any suggestions and/or advice for me with going to the Officer side of the house. With this degree will my application be competitive? Also, when accepted into OTS do you make up a list of preferred jobs just like when you go into enlisted DEP?

There are two different boards you can apply for for OTS--rated and nonrated. Since you want to be a pilot, you should apply for the rated board. You can apply about a year before getting your degree. If you haven't done so by now, you need to see the counselor at you education office. They should be able to help with your package.

I know this is a pretty old thread but I want to make 2 points here. ABET accreditation is a MUST so don't waste your time doing something that isn't. And two, and this is a biggie, EET and/or Electronics Engineering are NOT considered engineering degrees by the AF. You need to make sure that your degree title is Electrical Engineering and nothing else.
