Well, I am an A1C getting ready to sew on SrA on in about 3 months. I am trying to retrain into sere at my 3 year mark, but...
...My first EPR was BAD. referral 2. Basically i had some issues getting back into the swing of things when i got back from iraq, and had ALOT of growing up to do.. My commander gave me a UIF instead of an article because she felt she saw something in me. I used it as feed back and I have since pressed on and impressed everyone in my leadership.. I still have alot of growing up to do, and still need to work on some things, but have done a complete 360. I will be the first person to say i am far from perfect. My next EPR will be coming up here in about a month, and it will either be a 4 or a 5. pretty sure a 5. And i have my commanders full support if i need a letter of recommendation. |

First, I'd recommend you review AFI 36-2626 to gain a better understanding of the retraining application process for First Term Airmen (FTA) under the CAREERS program.
Secondly, if you only have two EPRs in your jacket when your application hits the board, then I'd say your chances of being selected for retraining (any retraining) are going to be slim at best. I say that because all CAREERS retraining application packages are reviewed by the Quality Retraining Program (QRP) board. During this review, all applicants for a each specific AFSC will be racked and stacked by specific criteria. In other words, when you apply, all FTA who are applying for retraining into SERE will be competing with one another. When the system racks and stacks individuals, it will be based upon the following info: 1) most recent EPR 2) current grade 3) projected grade 4) next three EPRS 5) date of rank 6) Total Active Federal Military Service Date (TAFMSD) 7) AQE score in the applicable area Now, as you can see, # 4 above will be a potential killer for you if you only have two EPRs being reviewed. Even if you have a 5 on top (most recent), I can guarantee you that the majority of other applicants will also have 5's. Then, when they start the 2nd rack and stack based upon the next EPR, you will drop to the bottom and in all likelihood, won't be considered. If you'd like my two cents, I'd recommend you hold off on applying for retraining until you have more than two EPRs under your belt. In fact, if you can get a total of four more before you apply, then that would knock the bad EPR completely out of consideration. And most definitely, review 36-2626...it can only help you. |

thank you sir. Heres the thing though, If i want to retrain as a first term airman, i wont have 4 epr's. My cross training window come up on my 4 year mark.. I can however retrain at my 3 year mark if i am trying to get into a critical career field, and my current AFSC is not.
I will wait until my 3rd EPR and then i will put up my package, or try to get my leadership at my next base to do another EPR so that i have 3 good ones. |
