Hello and thanks for this amazing resource for veterans.
I was deployed to Torrejon Air Base in November of 1990, in support of Desert Storm. I was stationed there for about five months. While there, I was admitted to the hospital and seen by docs on multiple dates. I've been working with my local Veteran Service Office. They helped me get my medical records. However, the records are NOT complete. There is absolutely NOTHING in my records from Torrejon and my disability claim is dependent on those specific records. I just got off the phone with the Veterans Service Office and they told me that it's going to be very difficult to get those records. I left a message for the manager of that office to call me ASAP. Now what? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and effort. Sincerely, Mike C. This message has been edited. Last edited by: cope242, |

I really wish I could be of major assistance ... but the best I can do is pull various ideas out of my fourth point of contact on the off-chance you may not have tried them. Though you probably have.
Since Torrejon is a closed base, their medical records had to be transferred SOMEWHERE. Try tracking through the AF medical system to find out where. Since you are retired/separated, St. Louis would be a logical place to start - the repository of most "old" medical records. If necessary, contact the Surgeon General of the AF's office. He's not likely to get back to you, but perhaps an underling will. (Your chances are better if you are former AF; less so if you are not.) If you can recall or have references to any of your providers there, you can do a medical provider search on them. Google is your friend, and start with major medical associations like the AMA or AMSUS (the main military medical association). Be as specific as you can with dates, procedures, diagnoses. Depending on what you were treated FOR, you might be in a registry (such as a Tumor Registry) of some sort, but that's probably a long shot. That's the best I can do. Good luck. PS. I went to high school at Madrid High School in the '60s - located at Torrejon. When the base closed, it broke a lot of hearts. |

Thanks for the reply! What is your fourth point of contact? I've only dealt with the Veteran's Service Office. I did send a follow up e-mail to the records center in St. Louis. I was hoping they could tell me what happened to the records at Torrejon.
Any ideas on how to track "through the AF medical system to find out where"? I am separated from the AF, so I'll give the Surgeon General of the AF's office a try. Thanks again for the feedback. I greatly appreciate it! |
