I requested my Medical records from the NPRC, was advised my records are held by the VA. I contacted the VA was sent a copy of some of my records but the tour in Korea 1984-1986 was incomplete. Contacted NPRC again no luck.Contacted my Congressman no luck. Is there any other means to get all my records?
Same here! BTDT with the whole drill on finding my Medical Records, went thru NPRC, not a nod, wink or written word from them on my medical records, and worse my in-patient records of treatment at an Army General Hospital. Initial submission years ago regarding the search for my (stolen medical) misplaced medical records from the 5 sided building met with no ungatz from the powers to be.
This past year thought I'd submit for determination of disability eligibilty thru VA. Followed the same process, less going thru a military organization for submission. Gathered all of the documents supporting my claim; host nation hospitalization, LOD, out patient temporary physical profile limations. Threw it all together and sent it to VA, quick & speedy response from VA. They wanted the same documents I wanted! Put the documents together again, this time provided a index of events indication specfics that had supporting documention.
Again, a quick, speedy, & nifty response sending me to a doc for eval. Within 30 days following the notification (not visit), had a descion from VA, with a detrmination. However, the explanation from VA included that due to the absence of medical record documents they could ONLY award me X %.
So how does one that had a medical record, a stay courtesy of the Army's medical department at one of their hosptals obtain documentation. The other wrinkle is that CHAMPUS (in it's early stage) processed ALL of my medical paperwork; stay at host nation hosptal, transfer to US Army hospital and discharge.
goin' back to the topic of this thread? gota' reply from the good folks of NPRC, alas , coulda' figered it out my self;"Dear Sir: Thank you for contacting the National Personnel Records Center. Went on to say they were enclosing the requested Inpatient Medical Records: however"the (M) miltary record isd NOT available " at the National Personnel Records Center. Closing included; "if you have any questions blah........blah please consider submitting yer blah.....blah(?)
Some of my hubby's medical records were missing and I contacted the military hospital he was treated at and the records were still there from 1969- they had not been sent to St Louis or wherever they should have been sent. I never did get his complete records- assume they were lost. He spent over a year in a military hospital and only about 9 pages of his record was found. I was lucky enough to find someone that was willing to look for the records- I think that is the hard part.
Hopefully the in-patient records sent & received by the good folks NPRC will be helpful to continue the support my claim. Clinical Record over 20 pages for hospitalzation at US hospital. Certinally more than I had. Will continue to search for my Active Duty service health record, now maintained thru VA. Yet it hasn't looked good thus far. But ya gotta, keep at it.
