My husband asked me to login for him and post 2 questions as he is driving a truck over the road with no computer access. 1. After browsing these forums for him yesterday I was surprised to see WTC no longer being conducted in NM. He has orders (cut in Nov)to report to Ft Sill 11Feb09 then proceed to NM for WTC then on to AIT. Obviously he is not going to NM. How are these old orders getting changed? Recruiter? MEPS? after arrival at Ft Sill? We cannot afford for him to quit his civilian job 06Feb09 only to report to MEPS and be sent home with new orders/WTC class date for March or later. He contacted his recruiter yesterday who (not surprisingly) knew nothing about the change in WTC location. Said he would check into it but but no word yet. My husband plans to be at his office tomorrow morning when he pulls up to get to the bottom of this. Just interested to know how he can be proactive in making sure he gets to WTC in Feb. Being prior service myself I see nothing has changed when it comes to communication in the military!
2. What is the deal with getting a guaranteed assignment in his enlistment contract? Recruiter and MEPS said it couldn't be done but I see that you advised another soldier that it could. They told him his ONLY option was to fill out a dreamsheet at AIT. My husband thinks this is BS and would like to know if you know regs or concrete information he can take to his recruiter tomorrow to see about getting this into his final contract before he ships out. We have a post we prefer for family reasons and would hate to find out too late we could have gotten a guaranteed assignment if we had known how to go about it. He is 88M so could go just about anywhere. ANY information about these 2 questions would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully you'll see him soon at WTC. He'll be one of the "old guys".
The Recruiting Agencies are at the lowest level and the WSMR closure may not have reached them... although they should have been notified by USAREC Message by now?
No Big Deal! Your Soldier's Orders will be corrected at MEPS just prior to shipping. The previous were tenative.
IMPORTANT:Ask a Recruiter to check his course start date per his reservation for WTC to assist you both in preparing for his confirmed ship date.
No guarantees on the assignment. It's called a "Wish List" and is the needs of the Army. Being 88M though... he has numerous openings almost anywhere!
I should have done my research better about the guaranteed assignment thing before I posted that question! I googled it and see now that it really is not an option much any more! I should have known better. Thanks for the info on the other though.
Thats BULL **** the recruiters know about it the change! They just don't know **** about anything when it comes to WTC about how the course is ran. What to expect. And th9ings like that. WTC for the time being is a complete waste of Army time and money.
You're entitled to an opinion... we've all got them. As I stated before... You should arrive with no opinion of training and learn what you need to survive combat. Many Soldiers need this, but apparently you didn't.
Recruiters - How do you think you got here along with all those other Soldiers?
