I have a quick question for you that i didn't get to ask you in the Class A block of instruction. I was in class 0714 4th platoon 2nd Squad. The guy that said the ACU's didn't blend it at all when you were in the gilly suit. Anyway i was AF Security Forces and have that qual badge. The army doesn't have a transfer badge and i am able to wear it. Well i earned it and don't know where on the pocket to put it? I also have one qual badge ( Sharpshooter with gerenade bar). Do i place the sharpshooter badge in the middle and AF badge on the right 1/4 of an inch fron the top. And how far appart? Or the sharpshooter on the left and AF badge on the right???? I can't find anyone at my Unit to tell me. If you can help that would be great??
If I'm reading your question correctly, the AF badge you're talking about qualifies as a special skills badge, yes? So long as this particular badge you're talking about isn't actually a "career field" badge, here's what I'm seeing in AR 670-1, 29-13, paragraph g, and further on in that section:
It would qualify as a group 4 badge, so you would wear it to the right of your sharpshooter badge. (Right, as in the side of your left breast pocket flap which is closer to your right breast pocket flap). Being group 4, you could also choose to wear it above your ribbon stack, if you prefer that.
Check out that section of AR 670-1. Gosh I hope this is right :P You zany guys going Army has always thrown me for a loop in trying to figure out where your stuff goes
SPIDER is right, you wear it above your stack, and subdued on your ACU's. Weapons quals are below on the pocket. But, since it is from a non-Army service you must obtain your commands permission to wear it. I am pretty sure the regs dont say how you obtain permission (written or oral) but you must at each command.
For my ESWS I had to subdue it myself. I asked my 1SG about it and he said no problem but run it by the CO when I spoke to him. 5 months later I finally meet my CO at the COC cerimony as he is departing. He walks up and says hello and calls me a "SWO Baby", I said yes, and he said he didnt know we could wear that. I told him yes if he said so. He laughed and said sure, then asked me if I thought he could wear his Aircrew pin from his Navy Enlisted days. I said I was not sure, but I didnt think it was allowed as the Army has a similar qual.
OV, if by "Aircrew Pin" your CO means his Aircrew Wings - then Yes, if he earned them before he can wear them now. The difference has been pointed out by those wanting to trade their former service wings for the Army Aircrew equivalent. They can only wear the Army AC Wings if they attend and qualify on the Army Aircraft. That said, your CO should be able to wear his old wings - he just has to subdue them. And - since he's the CO he should be able to approve his own wear of the former service wing/badge, no?
Interesting take on the regs. I am not sure I agree with you though. To me it would be similar to my qualifying with the M14 and 1911 in Navy Bootcamp, but cannot use that in the Army. Although AC is a special qualification badge, so you may be correct.
You know, there are not that many badges/pins in the whole of the military, and the regs are gawd-aweful long and windy. Why dont they just list all of them and say yes or no. Put an end to all this guess work. But then again, why use 100 words when 1000 can confuse the issue better, right?
Not my take, bro. I try not to spout about stuff I'm - at the least - not sure about. Just passing on the input of previous posters - and ones who have seemed to know their stuff -AdminNco and FormerEmbassyMarine. Run a search on the badge/wing question and see if you can confirm. I do believe that most services accept for wear the AC Wings of the other branches - if they were legitimately earned and have documentation. The issue was only if someone with enlisted AC wings could trade theirs for Army Wings. I know many Mustang Officers who were enlisted AC still wearing their wings. It gets interesting - at least in the Air Force - for those enlisted AC who going on to become officer AC. In the AF, they must wear their current qualification badge (wing).
Check it out. Let me know. I'm planning on "trying" to get both my AF badges approved.
