Doesn't the Army's IN/OUT Calls show shortages Army wide? I have read on a few discussion boards that Prior Service have been shafted with bonuses and MOS choices. I found the latest IN/OUT Calls list and it shows many shortages. Here it is:

Army IN/OUT Calls as of 30 JAN 09

Its also interesting to note that after all this time, they still seem to have a need for 88m's...go figure.

from what I gather what is mostly looked at for prior service MOS selection is high asvab scores. IE if you are 110 across the board youll get a listing of " needs of the army" MOS that really dont reflect the in/out calls but more on what best to use you at in relation to how many other applicants fit those asvab points..

IE if your 110+ in FA and its not common to find that.. youll be given a selection of mos' with that in mind as well as some potential desk/ office MOS'
the amount of MOS and type is seemingly very dependant on your prior service exp and the asvab scores you hold.

It was suggested to me to get your ideal MOS you would need to score high on that ONE area and barely make 50 on the rest to increase your odds. that would seem an impossible task considering every prior service took thier asvab eons agoBig Grin

That really makes sense to me. I don't recall ever seeing a discussion of asvab scores in comparison to what the soldier was offered. My last one was in '97. There was some talk of Asvab having a 10 year lifespan in accordance with changes to it over the years, but if the recruiter pulls the ReDD report, he (she) should be able to determine where one stands.

I took my asvab in 1991.( I have a copy of my redd report ) I dont even think its the same test by far of what they take now and it was EIGHTEEN years ago. I was not allowed a retest to improve those scores nor where they considered invalid. ( I argued it at the recruiter station but was shot down since those scores from 18 years ago where all over 110, they didnt see a need to retest me nor did they want me boloing it)

what I was told. weather or not its factual I cant dispute or know. just relating the reason I was given.
FOR EXAMPLE; if the needs of the army say " we have X slots in X mos and all those with X score or better in ST will be given that MOS as an option until its filled." as prior service the needs of the army are the above example PLUS " we have X slots and new recruits are not taking that MOS option so any PS with X asvab rating will get that MOS as an option"

I think time OUT of service may be a contributing factor. I know it is for rank, which makes me assume it may effect MOS choices as well.

I didnt get the MOS I really wanted and I was given a very narrow selection of MOS to choose from ( four MOS this time compaired to two pages on initial enlistment). The insult to injury was being dropped from e-4 to e-3.

I rejoined to be a soldier so I sucked it up and im carrying on and chose an MOS that I know a bit of and find to be something I can do well, we'll see come the begining of WTC in the first of may.

So could this be why I've never been to MOSQ school for my contracted MOS in 2 years? I'll have to ask someone to explain this in out call for me.
