My husband and I just made the decision to go back to the military. We have been civilian for almost 3 years after leaving the Air Force. I came in on the very tail end of it all and my only real experience was the final pack out (we had a bed a desk and a tv and some pots).
So he is going into this WTC and I am really searching for as much information as I can possibly get my hands on, so I am not totally dependent on him to do all the leg work on what to expect. I am hoping that maybe someone somewhere will take a little pity on me and help me get up to speed and perhaps answer some questions. I just feel lost here I know so much about so many military topics through prior experiences working for the NEX and meeting so many people, but now I am getting ready to experience a real pack out and moving dogs and I just want to get this right so that my man has confidence in my abilities to handle the home front so he can just focus on becoming a soldier. Amy,
Allow me to laud your devotion to your spouse (spouse is a very un-endearing term). Don't sweat the small stuff. You will find folks on here that will help. One thing that all bases have is plenty of help and advice for adjusting and transferring. It is most likely that you will receive info on where-ever you are going and get a sponsor(someone to hold your husband's hand through his first in processing). The post military personnel office will be a great resource. I hope this helps. I was Air Force but did much of my training, and living on or near Army Posts relying on the Army for all matters. I hope this helps. When does the soldier depart, what MOS(job) will he do and does he know where he is going yet? MJ |

I am so spastic & organized, lol. I know there will be people to help along the way, but the thought of relying on others is hard for me. I am trying to get a hold on that. When I don't know something I go get the book or take the class, but there is no book or class for me.
He will go to WTC first and the recruiter still hasn't said where that is he said something like Texas or Nevada so I was like o..k, lol. Hopefully I will have more concrete information come next Friday. Our recruiter is good, better than most I have known, but he is 24 and single and we are 24 & 25 and married so he is not fluent in the specific things we have asked. I sweat the details so I just want to be ready, no surprises, but I guess thats hard since the military is not exactly an exact science. Thank you though for writing to me I do appreciate it. And it sounds like your situation was similar to ours when my husband was in NJ McGuire and Fort Dix are an AF and Army joint effort so it is a big mixer with a shared commissary and BX. And his MOS will be similar to his job in the AF which was fuels/ petro. We wish there were more options for prior service since he picked that as an interest at 17 and now he has different interests, but we are more proud to just be rejoining the mission. Leaving a good career for the Army seems silly to some people, but to us it is really about the bigger picture. Thanks again it was nice to talk to someone about all of this! Amy,
First, the WTC course is held in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Your husband will be part of an "adult" boot camp. He will be treated, for the most part, as a veteran of the United States armed forces. He will be given a few freedoms that the regular boot camp soldiers will not, such as cell phone privledges and a little more personal time most evenings. He, and you, will still need to understand that this is an intensive training program that will require him to have his attention completely on the training. There will be days that he will not be able to call, very early mornings and plenty of physical training. If he is not exercising now, he really needs to start. It will make things easier for him in the long run. Also, if he will be coming back in as an NCO, he will be extended an additional week for NCO only training. Your recruiter may or may not tell you this or even know about it. I am 44 years old and just graduated WTC in April. I survived. So will he as long as he goes into the program ready to learn the Army way. By the way, I am prior service Navy. I left service in 1987 and just went back last August. |

Razman5325 and Amy,
I have been reading your posts because my husband too is re-enlisting. He got out of the Navy in '91, right after Desert Storm. About 18 months later he went in the Army because the Navy was not taking prior service. He was a 92Y, Airborne, attached as support to 1st SF Group in Ft. Lewis, Wa. He got out of the Army in '96. I cannot believe that we are in our 40's and have made this decision. He lost his management position and somehow we got on the subject of the Army. It just seemed so logical. We have decided to live apart for a while though because our son will graduate high school next year and we don't want to move him during his senior year and we need that BAH to try and pay our house off early. It has been a while since I have seen my husband so excited. He had to drop about 32 pounds and he has lost the first 20. We are going to the recruiters tonight to weigh again. Razman, the recruiter told us that WTC was in Ft. Bliss, Tx, is the one at Ft. Sill the only one? Amy, it is about the bigger picture for us too. The retirement, the college, the benefits, retirement at 53, should I go on? Plus, my husband loves the Army. The only reason he got out is because our kids were just babies and he was in Korea all of the time. They are 14 and 17 now and this will be a great adventure for them too. They can fly space-A to see their Dad, hang out at the base, it will be good. I am really hoping for a PCS to a good overseas tour in the next few years. It's funny how at our age we are looking forward to all of the things we dreaded when we were in our 20's. LOL! We have been together for about 20 years and this is just another adventure. My husband wants to get his teaching degree while he is in so he can teach when he retires. I guess I'm just rambling, good luck Amy and Congrats Razman! Michelle |

21292926-Congrats on your Husband on wanting to return, but I have to tell you....there is NO WTC at FT Bliss. The ONLY WTC going on is AT Fort Sill. If you go to the Fort Sill Home page or even google Warrior Transition Course at Fort Sill Oklahoma, you may be surprised. Good luck! Oh and do not be surprised that if and when he does get back in that he MAY be forced to LIVE off base because he will be considered a GEO-Bachelor, he will only get BAQ/BAH for his duty base assignment. Again this is ALL dependent on the UNIT he gets assigned to. I wish everyone here luck! Please read these forums carefully. I have been with the WTC program since ALMOST the beginning.

Congrats to you and your husband Michelle. We are at about the same spot with the recruiter as you at the moment. We have gotten the whole packet together with all the random information and addresses for the last 10 years, lol. And Friday this week he is going to MEPS and we will hopefully have some true concrete information about what the next step is... I'm nervous and excited. And yes I am hoping for a good tour overseas sooner or later also, but just to get out of Jersey would be great its just sucking the life out of us. Well I hope it all works out for you guys! And I don't know if this would help you at all but we found a few things useful...
