Are PS NCOs tapped to conduct PT or drill and ceremony at some point during WTC? Or is it open to almost anyone?

NCO's are picked first. With our platoon every NCO got a chance to be in charge in one way or another. We had a couple of SPC's become squad leaders towards the end. By the end of the first week they try and have the NCO's run the show. PT and marching to chow. NCO's learn the NCO creed. Everybody learn the soldiers creed and the army song before you go. It makes it a little easier. Make sure for your pt test that your form is correct on push-up and sit-ups. They gave a pt on the second day, if you passed it you were done until the final pt test, and if you failed you get put on remidial pt and test once a week until you pass. They gave the people that failed the final pt test two more chances to pass before being sent to F battery.

sounds good. thanks for the info. oh... cheat sheets...

oh, are OPORDs (operation orders) or TLPs (troop leading procedures) part of classroom instruction? I know general orders, the creeds, the core values and the Army song are part of it...

heh, I may be jumping the gun here, but its good to have some background info before heading in.

How long do you have to complete each of the ruck marches?

tEN671: do a google search on Army FM 6-22. It's
the army Leadership manual and has a lot
of information.

From what I could tell the ruck marches were not timed. On our 8k we only did 5 miles becuase of the threat of rain and thuderstorms. The rucks were pretty easy I thought. Alot of guys only had a thier sleeping system in thier ruck for the last march. The course is pretty simple. The worst thing in our platton was the lack of respect from the non-NCO's to the NCO's. That got us into more trouble than anything.

Awesome, was looking for that FM. Anyways, my question was concerning OPORDs and TLPs... not about leadership in general.

For those interested in the basics of OPORDs and TLPs, you can refer to FM 3.21.8, "The Infantry Platoon and Squad" (formerly FM 7-8) for more info.

My original question was more along the lines of whether or not we will touch base on these topics. A plus for us NCOs and even junior (even though many of us going back into service aren't so junior any more) enlisted members to know.

You can thank the Guam National Guard's pre-OCS program for wanting me to come "really" prepared. Razz

Rucking... ugh, looks like I have to build up my calluses again.

No problem. If I remember right the first week was mostly classroom stuff. Classes about how to wear your uniform, sexual harrassment and things like that. We might have done cls( combat lifesaver). The next week we did land navagation( kinda did it backwards by doing a night land nav first then a daytime one.2 days.3k ruck march back. Then we started brm. You first go and shoot at a big computer screen. Then you group and zero your weapon(2 days). Then you go to a pratice range were you shoot and a computer will tell you were your shoot was in relation to your target.5 K ruck march to the range. Then you start your qualifications(3 days) Pretty much everyone will qaulify one way or the other.Brm takes about 1 1/2 weeks. End of third week is U.S. weapons( machine gun fireing). Next day was convoy live fire. They made this a little bit more fun by haveing an ied explode and have injures to take care of along with jumping out of the humvees and return fire(blanks only). Then we did our 72 hour FTX. Did or assualt on the town and did our 8K ruck march back to the barracks. Then it was recovery time and graduation practice, then you graduate and go home or to your school.

No opords or TLP's or MDMP going on in WTC. That is all covereed in NCO leadership Courses.

BUT..... there is a lot of wasted time in both courses. It's probably due to the fact that the leadership has a combined IQ of about 5!

It seems that someone had their feelings seriously hurt at WTC. I am curious why the majority of people that have finished WTC were pretty happy with the training but this guy has nothing positive to say at all. To be honest, I think he does need to suck it up and shut up. Maybe that's just me though.

I just came back from the Recruiting Station where they said prior service Marines don't attend WTC. Don't know if it's because I left as an E-4 or if that came down from on high.

How many Marines were in your class?

They made it sound like the Army won't have it be a part of CLS certifiction amymore. They say that instead of getting the bleeding under control soldiers were more worried about getting the IV started. PT was not that bad. You run every other day. You run with a group that has about the same run time as you. Around 2-3 miles. The other days you will do muscle failure. So it was not too bad.

running is my only concern, i've been doing some here and there but nothing near what i should have, and i leave in a week. anyway, what exactly is this F-battery? from what i can tell, i'm the last class before winter break, so if someone cant pass the pt test, do they come back after winter break??
