Ive been in the AF National Guard for a year and a half now, as Security Forces. I just never feel at home in the Air Force, the structure the discipline of those around me is not the Military experience I expected. I am not bad mouthing I hold no grudges or have ill feelings towards any of my leadership. The decision was mine in the beginning I was coached along and told the smart move would be Air Force. In my gut I've always wanted Army or Marines and that feeling won't go away, Now im at the crossroad of making the decision, I look to transfer into the Army Guard as either 31B MP or a combat related field. I think the Army would suit me well, for any who have made the switch any advice on how it went? and tips for WTC? Thanks again to all of you and I look foward to continue in serving this great Nation in a different role.
If I were you, I would wait until you're contract is up. Air Force has plenty of high speed Army type MOSes. Think about reclass as a PJ, TACP, Combat Controller, all will give you more than you can ask for, believe me bro. Then after that come on to the Army.
Went smooth for me. Just transferred from ANG to ARNG 31 Mar 09. Had to do it very quickly as the ARNG is only taking prior service who were previously qualified in the MOS that they want to enlist in as of 01 Apr 09. Went directly to my Commander in the ANG due to the exigency of the situation and he completely understood and was supportive of my decision. He signed my Conditional Release and with some double-time leg-work from me the ARNG did their part and I was enlisted as a (21b) Combat Engineer 31 March. I am very happy and very excited and looking forward to going to training again. I too have needed more "Hooah" in my life again for some time now. Should have done it sooner, but it's done. Like I said, haven't gone to WTC yet so I don't know. I will try to be ready for it and look forward to it. I really love a challenge! It Really gets me going, ya know? Good luck to you!
Appreciate both of your input, thanks for that. MC29 I see were your coming from im sure if I could find the training im looking for out of the AF, still a abit up in the air about it all. pdu850 glad to hear your transition went smoothly, I don't see my Commander giving me much of an issue either if I decide to cross that bridge, which is a good feeling. Just tryin to figure what I really want out of my Military experience and go from there. Good luck in WTC let us no how it works out for you.
Thanks, I will. Ya know, you said that you know in your gut what you have wanted? So did I. Do what you will, but I say go with your gut. Life's to short when it comes to work, or your Military experience. Try to place yourself where you think you want to be. Best of luck to you!
