As some as you know by reading my posts, I have been trying to become a soldier since January. If has been a serious battle of ups and downs to say the least. Along with a few miscommunications. My main reason for posting this is to make sure anyone who has any doubt, does not give up on becoming a soldier. I started in January by requesting an asthma waiver, since I had not had any problems since 91, doctors records were not a problem. And, I had to submit a lung capacity test with my records. Usarec came back with an ok to physical action. I received ones across the board but had to submit a waiver because my good and bad cholesterol levels were low. That waiver came back within a day. I then received the news that Usarec wanted me to take a methacholine challenge test. I took that and passed it easily. So the results were sent up last week and I figured it would be weeks or months before I heard anything. Well today I got the news!! No gray area, no maybe, no.....oops we need one more thing, I AM IN!!! So if you need a med waiver, never give up, I just received one of the most difficult ones there are......for asthma. My rank determination goes up tomorrow and that is a one day process. I don't even care what it comes back at.... I am going to be a soldier!! KEEP FIGHTING AND I WILL SEE YOU IN THE FIGHT!! Just a little history, I got out of the marines in 1991 with a RE-3 code and 10% disability for asthma. I am 44 years old and in excellent shape! I have a well paying job but I am bored to death and miss the military life so, here I go!
That is my message also...It took me almost two years of fighting, going to Doctors, and getting waivers to get back in...I also had a bad RE code from when I was young and stupid...I was out 22 years, but I'm back now...and enjoying every minute of it. If you want it, fight for it....and, I'm going to do it right (with maturity) this time...

Holy Cow! I've been out for 11 years and feel as though that is plenty. I can't imagine what it would feel like. Congrats!
Geez that is motivation. I've been out 4 years after a medical discharge and it's taken that long to get over the condition, collect paperwork, go through a dozen different recruiters, get several letters of recommendation, etc. 4 years of fighting, I go up next week for a physical. This is actually more exciting than when I first enlisted. Keep fighting guys, persistence always prevails in some aspect.
same thing here. started talking to the Army recruiters in January. finally got to MEPS earlier this month. passed the physical. only hold up now is some miscommunication regarding my VA comp (10%)
I had to collect medical records from when I was an active duty Marine (95-99) had to go throgh a couple recruiters, now i'm running into this problem with my comp.
Army was trying to tell me to have my VA comp waived before joining even though the VA has told me I can keep part of it. (joining Reserves) went round and round with recruiters and MEPS until I told them i'd waive it if they could tell me how to do it. they couldn't (because VA decides comp, not the Army) so hopefully that is the last obstacle and I can choose a job and swear in soon.
to make a long story short, i hear you you. don't give up the fight if you really want it.
