My recruiter told me today that they heard the WTC course was ending for good in August. Has anyone else heard that who would know?

That was rumored while I was at WTC. The Cadre want it to go away and bring in the priors to BCT.
They are fed up with guys coming in with rank and not seeming to have earned their stripes.
They are fed up with the lack of discipline.
They are fed up with no motivation.
They are fed up with no dedication.
They are fed up with the back talk, no military bearing and attitudes.

Unless something is done with the "I am not a new recruit" - attitude, then I believe it will go away.

Yeah. Pretty much what I heard, except that prior service Army or Marines will not have to do BCT, Air Force PS will.
They said that as of right now, it's a 50/50 of whether or not PS have to go to WTC, or even have the opportunity to do it.

Also informed me that as of today, 11X is not available, they are full, and recruiters have no idea what MOS PS can even get.
another day waiting and nothing figured out.

So did you talk to MEPS or a Recruiter Today. I have learned all Recruiters do not have their info straight now days.... I bet this only rumor......read this other post below here on the forum...where did he get this info if there are no other MOS optiosn for Priors?

*********************************************

The following MOS'S have opened up for fast ship dates. This is unclassified information and subject to change without notification. 11X,13F,15F,15S,15T,25F,74D,88M,91A,91B,91C,91D,91H,91J,92A,92F AND 92G. If you qualify for one of these MOS'S you can apply if you wish to obtain a sooner ship date or change your MOS. Contact your recruiter and fill out a request to renegotiate your contract. It will be forwarded up the chain and you will go to MEPS to renegotiate if it is approved. Hope this information is helpfull. If anyone uses it, let me know how it goes. Again, it is subject to change without notice.

Well good luck, I was told last week that my waiver was approved and then yesterday I called to check in and I was told I was denied and that the Army is no longer granting medical waivers. Im not sure what happened but I know either someone screwed up or someone is not being entirely truthful. I feel like 4 years gathering paperwork, getting recommendations from doctors, and trying different recruiters is ending up a waste of time.

It does not help that I was laid off 6 months ago either, crappy times we are in. Just gotta keep trying though.

Okay. Make no mistake, I can sign up today and get back in, the issue is what MOS is being offered and is WTC still being offered. Can not get an answer to those questions, yet. They have a guy PS signing up next week, and we will see what he gets offered.

I do know that no medical wiavers are being offered right now, but I heard that in October they may reinstate it.

I have a good buddy in New York TODAY at MEPS..Buffalo area.. He was an RE3 Waiver

MOS: 21E (Construction Equipment Operator)

Prior Service Army.

He was offered 12 MOS options.....and was told in New York

11X IS CLOSED

There are too many different stories. I can only assume it is what MEPS pulls up in the computer the day you are there!

I think I am just going to go to MEPS in atlanta area and see what they offer me. I can always say I need time to think or just, no, I don't want that MOS right? tje problem with that is, I don't want them to close PS getting in.

I am ready to get back in, this is so frustrating.

He said mostly Armor/ Mechanical/ Supply jobs

As to MOS, I have called him to get them from him.

He did not have high line scores on ASVAB and still got 12 offered..

Dont let the forum stray you from going. Prior Service are still being addressed and getting other MOS other than 11X. Dont even listen to these recruiters out here.

Mine had to call to find out how to do Prior Service paperwork at first, why would I trust him to know what is open for us!!

I changed Recruiter by the way!!

By the way I am in the Bama area/ same region and Batt Sup as yours
Good Luck

I hesitated to add my input about WTC problems, but here goes...

I was a prior navy E6, got out in 1987, came into the NG in 2007 as an E6. I went to WTC at Ft. Sill, met NinjaDrill when he was still in uniform and still a DS, even saw him chew some as*. I doubt I can ever be the soldier he was and is, but I think I am doing fine.

I spent 11 months now on active duty with the RA on two occasions. I see no difference between the PS NCOs at WTC and what I see in the RA. There are TONS of NCOs who are NCOs by rank only. Its everywhere, so get used to it.

The problem as I saw it at WTC is that the cadre are drill sergeants who went thru DS school to be one, then probably trained IET soldeirs too. The cadre we had tried to conform to the WTC way of treating the soldiers, but it has to be hard for them. Plus, they had WAYYYY more time off with us, than with IETs. I saw it as a love it/hate it with them.

Also, WTC used to be handled by the New Mexico National Guard. I think they did a fine job with WTC. I think the decision to bring WTC to the active army was a mistake. If it remains with the active army, they need to move it to a base that does not have IET basic, but then that presents a ton of issues too. Sending a PS E5 or E6 to basic again would be trouble if you ask me. Its a conundrum...

Maybe they should contract WTC out like pretty much everything else is now. Me and NinjaDrill can be gov't contractors and train the crap out those guys... he does the yellin and I do the paperwork...

Also, all of these posts about what MOS is available is for ACTIVE DUTY ONLY.

Has anyone heard anything else about WTC going away? I'm wondering cause I'm probably not going to be swearing in for at least a couple more weeks and I don't like the idea of full on boot camp again, I don't care about physical stuff and training (bring it on) just not all the bullsh@t that I already had to go through when I was a kid. At what point do you know that you are scheduled for a WTC class? Does the MEPS schedule you or your unit? I'm prior service going into reserves.

It seems to me, from what I have read on these forums. It is just a rumor, according to MEPS in Little Rock AR. as of Tuesday July 28th, WTC is booked through March 2010.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I haven't heard anything official. That's a long wait, I wonder what I'm allowed to do with me reserve unit until then. I'm guessing I would have to go to WTC before AIT.

Some want to join the Army, but not for specific MOSs. Others don't like the idea that WTC might go away, and that they'd have to do BCT and put up with some nonsense again. But here's the thing.

Do you want to join the Army? If so, jump at the chance to join the Army. You don't see the MOSs that you want? If you want to join the Army, you might want to pick the best option from what they offer you, then change later on. Looking at having to do BCT again? Well, if you want to join the Army, that's a 9 week price you'd have to pay if there is no other option out there.

You could simply walk away and say, "no thanks." When you do, you'll have to accept the possibility that you may not get a chance to serve in the future.

Your choice.

Do you want to join the Army? How bad? You might have to make more sacrifices than what you need to make in order for your wishes to come true.

To ease on some concerns, there's a thread on here talking about how they're not closing WTC down. You might have to wait a bit, that's a perfect time to get your PT in. If possible, obtain a copy of Warrior Skills Level I and read it while waiting for your WTC class to open.

Here's the deal. I spoke with recruiting today. I go in Thursday to weigh and tape at the recruiting office. MEPS has been sending PS other than 11X and another 5000 soldiers has been approved. Some are leaving for training in fout to six weeks. I was told that if can tape or weigh in may be able to ship by 30 Sep. This is great news. I'm ready to go.
