I am curious about the physically part being rough. Can you be more specific? Were you in shape before you got to WTC? I think physical training is all relative to ones conditioning coming in.

Any details you can provide are appreciated and congrats on finishing!

I was not in shape at all! I lost 15 lbs during my time there. It took me 4 times to pass the PT test, if that tells you anything. I could do zero pushups or situps my firt diagnostic. You will have two diagnostic PT tests, just to see where you are and your progress. The first one the day after you get there. We did PT every day except Sundays. Along with PT, I thought the marches were tough. 3k, 5k and 8k with gear... pretty challenging. I had been out of the military 15 years and probably had not done anything active the past ten, so for me, it was tough. If you set your mind to it, you will be fine. If you do not pass PT, or any other part of the requirements, you will be sent to the holdover battery. Trust me, you do not want to go if you don't have to. Graduate with your class, it's a great feeling when you finally finish! The cadre are great, or at least ours were. We were Echo Battery and I was in 1st platoon. Could not ask for better guidance!!! Hope this helps you, let me know if there's anything more!

Wait....you couldn't do ANY push ups or situps when you got there? How did you get past the recruiters PFT? I was told I'd be tested before even signing papers. I'm still working on losing 20 pounds and getting up to speed for the PFT for the recruiter.

I never had any PFT with my recruiter. I am ARNG and when I got to WTC, that was the first PT test I had taken since enlisting in the guard a year ago. Kind of crazy, I know! They also do not do Height/Weight at WTC. I worked hard when I got there to get it right. Just proves anyone can do it.

Just curious, do you know if the requirement is 50% or 60% if one is continuing on to AIT, Active Duty? I will shoot above both of those, of course, but just curious.

A special shout out to my homey SPC J, Kosovo here we come! By the way, You know my Name! Widowmaker! LOL! SPC J is right, you take away what you put into YOUR training. If you train hard you will be succesful. My advise is to start to prepare now and get into shape. That will minimize the chances of you getting hurt or sent to F btry for not being able to pass your PT. I feel bad for a couple of people that missed their run time by like 2 or 3 seconds. So work hard now and don't get discouraged. If you prepare now there should be no reason on why you can't pass the course. There is only one written test in four weeks and at that you will know how to take it and be successful. I also graduated with SPC J on the 18th. Good luck to all of you!

I suffered with the Shin Splints, had to ice my shins and take motrin. Stay off of running for a few weeks.. Used the treadmill to walk and rode a bike. I purchased new coushioning shoes and lost 15lbs, that seemed to have helped. Also my knees aren't screaming at me anymore!

Good Luck,

Geoff

Sweet! Thanks Rev....anytime anyone has a shin splint fix say it loud and proud....people need to know this stuff!

So I'll stick to the bike and walking the treadmill for a few weeks. I'll keep weight lifting and get some insole arch supports.

Keep the WTC experience info coming!!

What's Up, S??? August 10 is my mob date, BTW!... Mr. T, it's 50% if you are going to AIT or are not MOSQ. But, definately shoot for 60 because I passed at 50% at WTC and have to take another test at 60% at my unit to reelist and get my bonus. Needless to say about sick of PT!

Also, do what ever you can to avoid sick call. I promise you, you will get labeled! I went through some painful legs and nasty colds, and still did not go there. If you miss mandatory training, no matter what the reason, you will go to F Battery!

S, stay in touch!

What i would recommend you do is eat alot of bananas. The potassium that they carry help with the healing of the muscle. Also, try doing some exercises and stretches while you are sitting down. Simply put your toes at the end of a couch, bed or coffee table and flex your shins up and down to stretch them. Ice the hell out of them in 15 min intervals and take ALEVE! it's the best med for joints and muscles. About your time on the 2 mile, remember that it is all according to your age so you may not be that far away from 50-60%. Nevertheless, you wanna always aim for 100% so hell yeah you got your work cut out for yourself. Good luck.

SPC S.

what if you have a valid medical reason to go to sick call. like a kidney stone. im sure they wont label you like they do some people. you can tell who the normal sick call, getting out of work slackers are.

What's up fellow grads of 18 Feb 2009 WTC in Ft. Sill. Aztec Golfer, if I hear "you know my name, widowmakers!" one more time, I'm going to start having flashbacks. haha. Anyone who is going, focus on the 60 120's. Those helped me more than anything. My first run time was 21 min. My second for the PT test was under 17 min. Spc. J what's going on? Well good luck to you guys. Later

A valid reason to go to sick call should not label anyone, I completely agree. But, unfortunately that doesn't always matter. Just take care of yourself and "drink water"!

I was one that had pay issues. I did not get paid until I had been there a month. Very frustrating. Just keep on top of it.

As far as what to bring, paperwork wise... bring everything and originals if you can. Lots of things to hold you up at DEERS in reception, and trust me... you do not want to be sitting there any longer than you need to.

LOL, KMAC on the 'widowmaker' comment. I forgot all about that! Honestly, I was just discussing how many times we heard Hooah....

Anyway... all is good. Back to work getting ready for my MOB in August! I do miss all the fun people I got to know!

What does MOB stand for? I forgot how many acronyms the military has. lol

Also, what did the PT entail of everyday? I heard that they try to keep running to a minimum to decrease chance of injury. Is that true? If you could give me an idea of one of your pt sessions that would be great!
