Here is a little insight on what's happening with prior srvc; I'm a 7yr veteran who got out March 2003. Left the army as a SSG/E-6 for reasons of Parenthood (involuntary seperation due to parenthood). First of all my paperwork took 6 1/2 months from the time I went to a recruiter in Oct 14, 2008 (had to change recruiters 1 1/2 months into it because they did not want to go through all of the paperwork necessary for prior service)to the time that the RE code and grade determination waivers were approved (final approval 04/23/09). Recently, I went to Ft. Bliss, TX. MEPS (May 5th) to enlist. My only options were; 11X (Infantry) w/option 04 (Airborne), 11X w/option 40 (Airborne Ranger), 89D (Explosives Ordinance Disposal) Or 18X (Special Forces). The 18X can only be chosen if you have not reached your 30th birthday (no exceptions to policy). I also had to enlist as a SPC/E-4 and attend the Warrior Transition Course at White Sands Missle Range, New Mexico. I will be shipping out Aug 03, 2009 (that is the earliest ship date). I chose 11X option 04 (Airborne) because it was only a 40 month contract which means that I can reenlist after 16 months at which time I can change my MOS. On a more positive note, 11X promotion points are always VERY low - ALWAYS! Therefor, it is a great MOS for those prior service NCO's that will lose there NCO status comming back into the army to get a quick chance at promotion. Let me know if you have any other questions. My e-mail address is westley.rios2@us.army.mil

I hear 11x Airborne is the way to go. I saw 1 guy on here who got 15U. I don't how he pulled that off. I will go in a week to weigh in. I was 14 lbs overweight a month ago.
Run,run run, bike push-up sit-up; repeat and eat less of the good stuff. I'm ready to weigh in again. |

Well, my last MOS was 92y (Unit Supply Clerk). Prior to that I was a 14T (Enhanced Patriot Missile Crewmember Operator). When will you be heading out to WTC? I report second week of August. |

Ready to be a Grunt? |

It is the way to go and I'll tell you guys why. 82nd and 101st Airborne DO NOT MESS with you when your off duty. Other Army units will. That is the primary reason why. Both the 82nd and 101st put a high and I mean HIGH premium on realistic training that will better prepare you for a war zone. After the training day is done they cut you loose and don't latch onto to you for one BS reason or another. Pretty much it's a 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. job in both Divisions because they are Light Infantry. Rare that you will work past 5 p.m. in Garrison for either. Some days they will cut you loose at 2-3 p.m. Now if your married and not in the barracks your experience in this area will be troops with higher motivation....which is better then jacked up troops beotching all the time. Also, in both Airborne divisions they push you to succeed and push developmental assignments and schools on you. They look out for you as a Soldier. Other units.....not so much. InfantryPSAF: If you get that PT score up to 270 they will probably ask if you want to volunteer for Airborne school in Infantry OSUT. Those wings ar 10 promo points if you accept and graduate. If you get a PT score of 300 or higher at OSUT graduation, they will give you a AAM to start your ribbon collection early. Which represents some more promo points. Jumping out of a plane is not really as bad as you think it is never having done it. The first jump is all procedure and your not even thinking about danger. Second jump and beyond is routine. I only jumped twice as a skydiver and the second static line jump was actually kind of boring. So if you get offered Airborne School......take it. Also both Airborne Divisions have a strong Veterans Association and a reunion every other year in which you can attend after you ETS. I'll be at Ft. Campbell this year in August for Week of Eagles. Only requirement is that you have served with either Division in uniform. So yes, target the Airborne Divisions if you can for assignment. I'm not saying that as some cheerleading retard. It's really in your best interest if your 11X. |

Now I was told that if i could get all my waivers in order I would most likely get my old MOS back. I mean I know 31B Military Police is always hurting so I was wondering if anyone had even been offered it.

I was a Military Police (back then it was 95B). If you read this forum correctly, you will see that at this point in time all the army is offering are the mos's listed in my earlier statement above. 11X, 18X, 89D, these can be combined with option 04(Airborne Training) or option 40(Ranger Training). Needs of the army at this point. |
