RE 1 Reenlistment code don't need any waivers, only an age waiver. I keep reading they're mostly offering 11X and 18X. I really want Infantry. I'm working hard on my PT, won't talk to the recruiter until I score 240, not far ahead from it. I want to be good to go for this.
For Infantry:
240 was the minimum for a 19 year old IET Soldier on the 19 year old scale in the 1980's.
If your using the over 40 scale for a Infantry unit, they expect you to have E8 or E9 stripes on you. I'm not trying to scare you, just being honest.
You can get by with a 240 though on either scale AND they will let you know what they think.....you need to listen and watch the hints, don't take anything too personally including someone screaming / cursing at you. Even though they will give you the impression otherwise, they do not expect you to arrive a PT stud, PS or not and they will give you a few months benefit of the doubt to shape up. I transferred over as NG in 1984, was 20 or 21 and out of shape tremendously. Almost fell out my first run and I was dying. I started to run nights after the duty day until my stamina and times improved.
Generally PT is important in a Infantry unit because its PT, Job Proficiency, Attitude.....all they have to rate you on when your a new arrival. When you first arrive at your Infantry unit they will treat you like crap. Its part of the initiation. Everything you say you will be doubted on. They will Supervise you like your a little kid and generally make you feel like a ****-up your first 6 months or so because you won't be proficient obviously in all the tasks of a Infantryman (even with OSUT). Suck it up and drive on through it it's part of the initiation. Around month 7-8 they will start to respect you and give you more responsibility.
It is really a tremendously rewarding MOS once you get past your first year at your first unit and in your second year you will like it unless your a turd. You really learn what makes people tick, how to read them at a glance, how to tell if they are lying to you, etc.
Good Luck! It's worth the effort, IMO.
