I am currently active duty Air force and I've been in for a little over 4 years. On my 1st enlistment of a 6 year commitment. I am very very close to doing the blue to green. I wouldn't say it's a problem but I just want to see if a smart idea for me to do this.

Well when I decide to crossover I want to be an 19D which is a Cavalry Scout. I understand fully that this is a combat MOS so I totally expect long hours, hard work, and getting dirty. So basically plan to get treated like **** all day everyday. And I am fine with it. I have a really really laid back job in the AF but it's to slow for me. I don't get any personal satisfaction from it. I sit at a desk most of the time the other half I'm inspecting gear that the Aircrew wear during there flights i.e.(Vest,Helmets,etc) It's not a bad job, 5 day work week form 0730 to 1630. I feel like I should be doing more. I would rather be out getting dirty. This may sound stupid but I feel like there is a difference between serving your country and fighting for your country. Someone who is a paper pusher in Finance is serving. A grunt in iraq kicking in doors and patroling towns is fighting and serving. Fighting is the BIG word there. When I tell mosty people that I want to fight for my country and take a dangerous job that can get me killed like being a Cav Scout. They dont understand. It's like something inside of me drives me to do that kind of job. I WANT TO DO THAT JOB!!!! I know most people would kill themselves rather than do this job. Most will never know what it's like to fight for there country. Some people just can't undersatnd what it is that makes me want to do a dangerous job like this. So I came to this website because I know there are alot of Vets here and people currently serving that will understand and help me realize that what I want to do is not foolish. I have a wife and 1 year old son. I understand that i can die but I feel like if i dont make this cross over than I will have waisted my time in the military. By no means am i in a rush to die. I just want to do more and I feel this is the perfect MOS for me. If anybody can or would like to share their thoughts please feel free. Positive or negative feedback is welcom. Thanks for reading and have a good 1.

Okay you check with your Recruiter and maybe some of the others can sound in on this. But if you have to attend (WTC) Cav Scout is locked out to you. Some MOS's such as Cav Scouts are locked out to prior service as I have been told.

I say follow your gut instinct, otherwise, you will never be happy in your MOS. Being a scout does not mean you'll be treated like **** nor does it mean you're going to get killed. You can be treated like **** no matter what MOS you have. It all depends on what YOU want to make of your job. You can get killed working in supply or being a truck driver. Being a scout doesn't automatically put a bullseye on your back. The objective in any MOS is to stay alive and do the best you can in whatever MOS you are in. Just my .02

Retread is right. Anybody can get treated like sh*t. The thing is... usually it's the ones who are not doing their jobs. If you are about doing your job and performing in a military manner then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. There are aspects of every job that suck. Hey, that's the military. But, if you truly like your job then everything will be fine. Me - I'm the exact opposite. I've already humped the hills for 11 years. I still want to serve my country; I just want to flex my BHG instead of my muscles.

Not sure where you got your information ajlds, unless this is something that has came down in the past 3 weeks. There were several cav scouts in my WTC class that graduated in September
