to start off cotrooper it all depends on WHEN you go to meps, its like the casino down there these days. secondly it depends on how long you held the rank of E-4, if you (like me) took the march test or whichever test right before you got out, and the results didnt come back until you was long gone, chances are it wont stick, even if your recruiter shows you PLAIN AS DAY you are a E-4, if you didnt wear it while you was in, you wont wear it now. now, if you DID make E-4 while in the service, and you DID wear it, the ball game might change. but again, nowadays its a get-what-you-get situaton down at meps. and in certain situations, they arent taking E-4's for certain mos's..... so you might want to rip that E-4 tag off anyway. but back to the basics, it all depends on your meps visit, and when you made E-4. I found out i made it a couple months after i was already out, my recruiter told me i could keep it. But it being i was out AFTER the results came back.... I F'D myself. sorry for the run-on but yeah, E-3 should be open in all fields.... if you havent been to meps yet word of advice, have a list with you on ALL the mos's you might want.... make that meps man work... he only tells you what YOU know... not what you want to know... good-luck.
