In order to snuff the rumors about what MOS"S are being offered to prior service, here is the breakdown. This is not rumor, it is fact! I saw the message with my own two eyes. I only looked at E-4 and E-5 because they are the most popular for prior service. so here is how it looks.
E-4 11B,11C,18X,35H,46Q,46R,89D,94S E-5 25R,35H,35L,37F,46Q,46R,89D Of course some of these are not offered to you if your asvab scores are not high enough. And remember, it is the (job counselor"s) job at MEPS to make you think that jobs are limited to prior service applicants so he can fill the armies most needed slots. If you scored high on the asvab and just lay down and sign for infantry because you believe the "counselor" as long as you are happy......HOOOOO'AH As for me, I am going to give negotiations a shot, if I don't succeed, oh well, then INFANTRY I will be, and I will be happy with it!! But you can bet your butt I am going to try. And remember you may have to drop to E-3 to get the job you want so, what is more important, immediate rank or a job you love? Again,I saw this memo with my own two eyes so like it or not, there are the facts!! |

I think it all depends on how bad do you want in. I was only offered 11x and 18x. These MOSs aren't my priority, but I want in, so I chose 11x. If I declined, I would've waited few more months to get in, or not get in at all because PS are not the priority. Just take what the offer and make the best out of it, You can always reclass.

The date on it is April 19th, it has no expiration date on it. It just has an effective date of April 19th. Your recruiter should have a copy.

Now that we are in July, do we know what the current available MOS/s are for Priors.
Is it just Infantry or are there others being offered? Thanks in Advance |

All that is being offered prior service for active duty is infantry of special forces. I just enlisted July 2nd with great asvab scores, but they did not matter. So there you have it........infantry.

I was visiting the Prior Service section of GoArmy.com this week and the post read like this...
Infantry 11X is NOT being offered anymore. Full House - Prior Service at Meps over the past few days were getting unheard of MOS options such as Tanker, Water Treatment, Media/ News .....they stated 11X and 18X were not being offered now.... I guess it depends on the day you sign, as to what is open for Prior Service Slots |

Well i heard that they are gonna want more troop for the new fiscal year to take the stress off of the soldiers currently service in the two wars. I find it hard to belive that they would not offer that if they are saying that they are going to need more new troops in the army. I am trying to get in the army and my recruiter said that 11x is one of the jobs that hey are offering priors right now. i think i will believe it when meps tells me that. thanks for the info and good luck in getting back in.

if anyone knows about the 18x still being offered, please let me know, that's a dream of mine. I have been working my civillian prior service butt off to get in and get it. this is july 27 09.
I know they are releasing in October, new MOs opening for PS. please someone update for all of us homesick boys |

I am sure that if you go to Meps saying you want Special Forces / Infantry and you have the line scores and under the age limit as a Prior, you will probally get it. There are restrictions for the MOS.
I was visiting Army.com and this is what was offered as of Thusday the past week... Tanker, Combat Engineer, Petroleum Specialist and Water Treatment Specialist and according to line scores could be more or less.... Good Luck |

yeah, I am getting two different stories. some say if you are prior service you can't be over 30. I am 34. My heart is breaking, but recruiter said I can get airborne, which I will be happy as hades to do. If I can't get SF then airborne is still the dream.

110 GT Score and Age 30 or younger for 18.
Just dug it up for you.. Good Luck to you...did you see all the MOS options that was posted on the forum today for Prior Service. It is the next posting down. I do hope we have those options. This is a far cry of change from just having the 11X option or go home offer... Navy91 |

I am prior service. I went to WTC in January 09. I got 25B with no bonus at all. Guys, think long and hard before reenlisting. If I had it to do over again I absolutely would not do it.

why is that? is WTC that hard or what i am 43 and prior service going back in just waiting on my re 3 code wavier to be done and any in sight would be helpful.

I read your post and you must be going through a bad command situation to say do not come back. Most of us Prior Service have NO jobs at all or working part-time. The work out here in the CIVI life is terrible in certain areas. Coming back in is security and about the only career in the country right now that gives you a raise yearly, unlike a stricken recession world. Thanks for input, most of us a begging to get back in. My family has no other choice in the state I live in. It is terrible. No $$ Navy91 |

I'll tell you his problem, he's an E-3. Life sucks as a private in the Army, period. Hey man, but like these guys said, things could be worse.

captainTass.... wow... where do i start... man.. i'd love to be where your at right now.... i got out in may of this year from the navy, and took the E-4 exam in march. the civi world is hell.... there are no proper jobs, most civi people are weird to me or just down right dumb, and i live with my mother and father in law... the shocker is that i got word i passed the exam i didnt even study for. and now i'm married, with a child on the way and no solid career... captaintass with men like me in these situations, your situation is small. but i guess one mans trashy mos is another mans treasured mos.... that said tass. you are well taken care of, not going to sleep at night wondering how your gonna make a way for your wife and future child is good, REALLY GOOD. |
