so here's the situation...

i am a prior service Marine who is now weighing all options.

i am 31 years old and have been out for 9 years.

i was told by an Army Reserve recruiter that i would have to go to WTC since i have been out for so long. He also said it was kind of like a "mini boot camp" where we'd learn the basics about the Army way of doing things. is it a daily PT/classes/etc routine?

is the course itself at Ft Sill or is it at White Sands? do you go to Ft Sill for the indoc and then go to White Sands?

when you complete WTC, do you go to AIT right after that?

Thanks for any responses gents.

I just finished WTC at WSMR and my AIT at Ft Leonard Wood. WTC is basically a waste of time if you are prior Army or Marines. They could have taught us all of the new stuff in about a week. I was out for 12 years and in pretty decent physical shape and it was all pretty easy. The only bad things are that they treat you like brand new IET soldiers alot and they make you work 7 days a week from about 0430 to 2100. You will be tired but it goes by pretty quick. In processing at Ft Sill sucks, alot! They definitely treat WTC soldiers like crap. You go to AIT right after WTC and for me at least that was a blast. Good luck, I think it was definitely worth it to be back in.

You won't PT much at Ft. Sill.. well, besides the occasional 10 pushups. When you hit Santa Fe, you will start PT right away; most of the time it was every morning, however on range days/Ruck days/PT Test day they will sometimes omit the morning PT.

You will also be afforded the chance to PT on your own when you get soldiers time at ~2100 (give or take a bit); Use this time wisely - PT or work on memorizing what you kneed to know.

One thing I suggest - memorize the Soldiers Creed & the 2nd 2 paragraphs of the Army Song (1 verse, 1 Chorus).

I dont know any of that stuff. i did my pushups for not knowing it though. i just found that there was more benefit in pushing than there was filling my brain with more stuff i wont use later. and dont say it makes you a better person. memorizing a paragraph doesnt improve the way you live your life. if you feel like it just pay attention when the nco's are doing the nco creed and use it against them if they start contradicting themselves. Like the one where they will not use their rank for personal gain or whatever. that one's great. perfect when they're trying to get out of details and stuff. its training. and you're all equal...

Postoymachine,

WTF!!! I hope someone at your unit straightens you out or you just get out..

Warrior Etho's...Is it important to remember? Yes, NCO creed I think so because when I remembered it, it was a reminder of the duties I am to fulfill, I hated trying to remember it at first, but I know it helps me be a better leader...

And you are not all equal at WTC, guess what...a sergeant is Sergeant (Not a PVT) and a PVT or PFC is a PVT or PFC (Not a Sergeant)...the powers they (NCO's) have may be limited, but they are still NCO's....

Im fine at my unit, they make sense. Aaaaand, I'm guard. they only get 2 days a month to straighten me out. I still got 3 years left too. We were all supposed to be pvts. you weren't from the army so why would they put you in a leadership position like you're an expert on everything? Not saying you don't know everything but you were learning along with the rest of us. There were people in leadership that should've been busy learning but instead were busy being babysitters the whole time. They chose between being leaders or being in training. Some of them tried both and failed. They were taken out of that position because they didn't have any answers. It seemed like our platoon was where the "leadership" got to test drive for a few days then got switched out again. We had one good one that didn't wanna be the PS in the 1st place. and even that one got rotated. I know who people were friends with so i'll let you figure out who im talking about...

Arrggghhh!!...Trying to insert a song here...key up music...

"Anchors Away, my boys, Anchors Aweigh...."

...Nope that's not it...

"From the Halls of Montezuma...."

Catchy...but no...

"Then it’s Hi! Hi! Hey!...The Army’s on its way...."

Getting close, but just doesn't do this moment justice...

...I know!... I got it!...

"THE HILLS ARE ALIVE....WITH THE SOUND OF MUSIC!"

Thanks DS Vargas..lol.

That wouldnt be disparaging words against the Guard now would it??? Dont make me come back to Sill to educate you DS...

Actually we have a few newbie privates in our unit that are just like this Postoymachine dude. They all went thru WTC or BCT, so why didnt the DS's beat this crap out of them? Guess some are just doomed to complain til they get out.

Well, I am off to Northern California to fight wildfires... A mission is a mission...
