I'm currently enlisted in the Navy and thinking of going to the Army at the end of my enlistment. I have about a year left so I need to decide soon. I'm interested in knowing what others who have done this think about the Army and their experience. Good or bad I'd like to know. Pros and cons, differences, anything. Also, I'll leave as an E-5, will I keep my rank and will I have to go into an MOS that is in the rate I am in now.(Gunners Mate)Any input would be a huge help. Thanks.

Well I did not go blue to green but I was a gunners mate and just enlisted in the Army for Tanks so not that far off.

Navy is easier, and you are treated better and with more respect GM2. Quality of life is better in the navy, food, lodging, housing, time off, work hours.

The army you will work long hours. Get treated like crap sometimes. Army chow is MRE sometimes if you in the field alot all the time. Why I chose the army instead of going back navy....

RANK!!!

Plain and simple the navy is over manned as a whole and will start cutting jobs mainly shore duty. Army tours are only 2 to 3 years, not 5 years sea duty like GM. In ten years you should be a senior e-6 if not E-7. 90 credit hours you can be a 2nd LT (Ensign). NO CHIPPING PAINT!!! NO PAINTING RUST when an Admiral is coming. Bonus are way higher for enlistment and re-enlistment. Talking at least 10k if not more.

If you like being a GM go tanks or Artilary. If you want to do something else ask for Training. PT is a huge priority in the Army so be ready for running. PT is huge for promotions and status. Promotions are done using a point system and you stand in front of a board like ESWS.

The Army is obsessed with rank. You will not be calling your E-6 Bill or frank. It will be Sgt so and so. I know in the navy it was more close nit in a division and you all partied together, not like that in the Army. Some NCO's like to smoke (cycle) privates, some like privates to be at parade rest when talking to them. That does not happen in the navy.

If you want it easy and stay an e-5 or e-6 stay Navy. If you want to be in shape and blow crap up and have fun being a soldier then put in your packet, the navy would be happy to get rid of a overmanned GM. The Army would love to have a SGT . And give you a bonus to boot.

Army=Rank and Money and High speed Navy=Lazy Life and easy duty and low rank.

Choice is yours.

***This my opinion please dont take any offense to what I have said***

i did the blue to green program about 2months ago. i love the army. there is so much more respect with in the ranks. you have to like doing pt. we run every monday and friday and on wednesday we do muscle failure. i got alot of money to come from the navy. it all depends on what mos you pick. its your choice but i would tell you to come into the army. the navy is for lazy people. think about it. instead of sitting on a ship really doing nothing for this country. in the army you get to go door to door kicking them down and taking the fight to the ememy. hooah!!! GO ARMY!!!!!!!!!!

I have to totally agree with the above. The Navy is hard as he%^& to make rank. The Army is a bigger service with more money to work with, more schools, better support systems, etc.

The Air Force is the same way...SLOWWWW in rank. I'm pumped about going to the ARMY and actually EARNING my rank vs. taking a written test once a year!

ARMY STRONG!!!
