I Reenlisted into the NG Febuary of this year and just went to reception drill this last month. Now, I am suppost to go to WTC in a couple weeks.

I was just told this morning that I was medically disqualified by one of the MEPS doctors because of a pattern of misconduct from my previous enlistment. What I don't understand is that how can I have met the reenlistment criteria and gotten an RE code waiver for my discharge but yet I get DQed without setting foot in MEPS?

Here is how it used to work:

MEPCOM is the DoD Agency that runs the MEPS, it is HQ'd at Great Lakes, IL. The Navy used to be in charge of Medical part at the MEPS and they try to guard the Medical info from USAREC until USAREC needs to know. So typically they append your Medical PULHES to your USAREC record only after the MEPS visit. It's probably refreshed shortly before the visit now if your PS. They do the same with the ASVAB test scores if you have to take that again. A Army recruiter can obtain the ASVAB scores before you go to the MEPS though because in their workflow they need to know that information prior to see if you need to take the ASVAB again. They do not need to know your past Medical issues other then a potential RE Code description.

Bottom line is USAREC does not know your past Medical Enlistment issues until right before you arrive at the MEPS or after you have visited it. It's a stupid U.S. Navy thing within MEPCOM. They love to argue and are probably behind the seperate Army Airborne Physical as well (Airborne school is another joint agency thing with the Navy's fingers in the medical part).

The guy I used to work with at USAREC in the 1990's used to argue with MEPCOM about how they run their show and how things could be improved with records management or IT on their end and they would just escalate and try to get whomever challenged them in trouble. In short they are real idiots.....in my view.

So that's more background for you. It's not necessarily USAREC jerking you around.

Thank you for the background info. I was told that I could be discharged because I'm not qualified to train, but I imagine that would be the worst case scenario if in the event that a NG waiver gets denied.

In my case I haven't had a psyche evaluation so I don't understand how I've been DQd. I'm trying not to pin the blame on my recruiters because I understand that they have to follow a chain of command so issues take a while to be resolved.

I'm the kind of person that doesn't take no for an answer when the problem is no fault of my own.

NG suspended enlistments with RE Codes along with moral and medical waivers. Check with the recruiter for the last SMOM Messages for WTC.
