Don't take or wear the boots that look like a modified running shoe Frown

Not only do they look ridiculous, they're ugly, reflect poorly on the uniform, and are actually unauthorized.

Whats up? When students first arrive one of the first things thats visually checked week one is appearance. Uniforms, cleanliness, shaving, etc. I have had students come through with non-issue boots and had no problem with it. AR 670-1 for ACU list specific manufacturers that are authorized for wear. But in practice as long as they are tan, 8" high and lace there should be no problems. Oakleys and sidezips are of course, not allowed at WTC. However I have seen lots of both here in the box.

Hey Sgt. thanks for your help and your service. Can you wear ACE style knee braces during WTC without a Dr's note/recommendation? My husbands knees are fine, I just want them to stay that way. I've heard mention that someone got away with it, but I don't want to create any waves...

Ace knee wraps are fine, they even sell them at the shoppette, As long as it does not hinder performance or detract from the militaryuniform it is allowed. We understand there are students whom are...seasoned and so therefore are more leniant than, say, Basic tranees. Your husband won't be alone, I know there will be plenty. On this subject I BEG of you to not bring scented sportscream, you know the mint smell. It makes the whole bay wreak and thats just not prudent considering there are 50-70 soldiers per bay. There are non-scented available. Also on the "sick-call Ranger" issue. The majority of sick calls are soldiers not seeking care but treatment. The medics are equipped with 500mg Ibuprofin(ranger candy) and robitusin. Thats pretty much it when its time to medicate, so briing your own if you wanna avod sick call. Also avoid bringing anything with alcohol like listerine, cologne, perfume, etc.

Thank you Sgt. That's what I was hoping. I think he'll be the guy helping tote "sick call rangers" gear. He wants this too badly to spend valuable time whining and moaning over aches and pains. I'm glad to hear we can pack the unscented cream, whatever helps.

Well, don't get the ones with capped toes like a regular jump boot - those are also unauthorized. Tan boots are plain toe only.

Come to think of it, don't get Corcoran at all - the authorized boot they make (which I wear in Garrison only) seems pretty comnfortable until you have to walk on uneven ground or for a distance, then you understand why real boots have a smooth heel box, instead of a seam running up your heel right on the friction point. I still have the damage from wearing mine in the field for a few hours of land nav nearly 3 months ago.

Army combat boots (hot weather and temperate weather), and Optional boots -
Army combat boots (hot weather and temperate weather) made of Tan rough side out cattle hide leather with a plain toe and tan rubber Outsoles. The boots are laced diagonally with tan laces, with the excess lace tucked into the top of the boot under the bloused trousers, or wrapped around the top of the boot. Metal cleats and side tabs, and sewn-in or laced-in zipper inserts are not authorized. A rubber outsole is the only outsole material that currently meets the need for durability and traction on surfaces. Other materials (that may be of a lighter weight) may have significant problems in these areas.
Optional boots - soldiers may wear commercial boots of a design Similar to that of the army combat boot (tan), 8 to 10 inches in height as authorized by the commander. The boots must be made of tan rough side out cattle hide leather, with a plain toe, and have a tan, rubber outsole. Soldiers may wear optional boots in lieu of the standard issue army combat boots (tan) - hot weather and temperate weather; however, they do not replace issue boots as a mandatory possession item. Optional boots are not authorized for wear when the commander issues and prescribes standard organizational footwear for safety or environmental reasons (such as insulated boots or safety shoes).

You should bring as little as possible!
Necessities such as underwear, socks, shower kit, and one set civies should do. You are authorized to bring electronics such as camera and laptops, but they won't get much use in WTC, cell phones are also a must have as there are no pay phones in Santa Fe. You will get your uniforms in Ninjadrills neck of the woods, Ft. Sill. We(the instructors/DS's) will then take over your mind and body for twenty-eight fun filled days of individual and teamwork strength building and Army level 1 training. I say again, LEVEL 1. It's too easy so don't make it more complicated.I am not refering to you specifically, but whoever else reads this that is coming back in.

WOW! Im glad I was referred to this site. So my first stop regardless is FT Sill, then to WSMR? I had always thought I went straight from Texas (my home state) to NM for WTC

I will fill you in on that but you need to read the posts under ninjadrill.
Ft Sill is where you inprocess for four days then they ship you to SF for two weeks then to WSMR for the last two.
Here's the twist, they have a few classes that actually stay at Sill for the entire course.
Anyway if you have time read a little, you will find almost everything answered in that thread.

Hey, thank you all for all the great info! I have a quick question for you...

What happens AFTER WTC?! I have a month between graduating WTC and starting AIT out in TX. What will happen in between that time? I asked my recruiter and he said they may hold me in White Sands until I report to AIT.

Any info on this?

Thanks!

They will most likely ship you directly to your AIT and you will hold over there, I don't think they have the room to just hold over everyone just because the 4 week wait. They will give the hoding part over to your AIT command.
But maybe ninjadrill or SGT Armijo can confirm this for you.
