For those of you who have not been following my post's. I enlisted July 2nd and am scheduled to attend WTC in January. I submitted a request to attend the full infantry OSUT program and waive WTC to get an earlier ship date. Well I received the word and it is a straight up "NO GO" from USAREC. That said the Army is full and scheduled up through February. Oh well, at least I know I will be a soldier soon. Figured I would let everyone know OSUT is not an option for prior service going active with more than 3 years out of active duty.

Thats interesting, at least you tried. I wonder how Secretary Gates plans to get the additional 30k he is talking about now through?

I told RakkasanDragon this would happen back in April when they slapped the enlistment restrictions on. I knew they would do this. There is no way they can keep the pace of deployments up with 30k walking wounded / injured in the Army now without additional troops. Effectively they only have 512k or so deployable now.

So sounds like they are going to 577k end strength next year (only temporary). Still tenative though. It also makes sense to take advantage of this Ecnomic downturn and the high quality applicants it presents. I wonder how they will get the 30k? Stop Loss? Additional Enlistees? IET? Prior Service?

They might already have the 30k in overstrength though.

Stay tuned.

I read about the additional 30k earlier. I'll be keeping my eyes posted on what happens.

The wants and needs of the Army seem to change on a daily basis. So, the only thing I can tell you is my story and what has happened with me. Maybe you will have better luck than me. I hope you get the MOS you want and a very fast ship date, Good luck and let us know how it goes.

You are absolutely correct about the wants and need of the Army changing daily! Another prior service soldier i met recently at the recruiting station just got 15D 2 days ago and leaves in 2 months. I got 19D last week and i leave first week of Jan2010. I guess rank and Ait school dates are a big factor too.
