Of all the information I was able to find before I went to WTC, the following is very true:
1) Be able to pass the APFT easily when you get there! There isn't a lot of PT time while at the Reception Battalion.

2) Know the Soldier's Creed and Army Song when you get there. A show of some motivation and pride in your new (or renewed) service won't hurt you a bit. If you are an NCO, know the Creed of the Non Commisioned Officer. Know it well. Our Cadre expected all of the NCO's to be able to say it, by memory, soon after arriving.

3) Know your Three General Orders. Learn the Seven Army Values, then start living by them.

4) Remember, you aren't in the Navy or Air Force, or whatever anymore. You are in the Army, and while being proud of your prior service is a good thing, don't rely on that alone to get through WTC. The military branches are different, and the Army expects things to be done the Army way.

AS for all the other information, such as laptops and other electronics being allowed, how strict or rigid Cadre is, etc...that depends on who your Cadre is. Mine was normally fair, but hard-assed. I saw several examples where Cadre defended Soldiers when they were lit up by the First Sergeant, or other Cadre, when the Soldier was in the right. You're a veteran and an adult. Act like it. Follow the rules you are given and don't *****. You don't have to like it, but you do have to follow orders.

WTC is only as hard as you make it. Practice team work and don't be a buddy f#$cker, and you'll do OK. Carry your load, and be ready to help others carry theirs. If you're over 40, be ready to be treated like you're the same age everyone else is. It is what it is. I'm 45, and I was expected to perform at the same levels the younger Soldiers were. Sometimes, us old guys were expected to do better than the kids. If you are an NCO, be ready to assume leadership roles in the platoon, and to be held accountable for the stupidity of lower ranking soldiers.

You get the idea. It's the Army. Remember, you volunteered. You have nobody to blame if it sucks at WTC for you. It was good for me. Lost some body fat and weight, and have a better attitude about the military now. I met some really decent people, and a few knobs, but most everyone was a solid guy or gal.

Good luck....

This is a perfect example of success! The course teaches you the basic skills you need to be an Army Soldier in Today's Army!

Too many are more worried about the little things rather than doing you part and learn the skills you're training for.

Congrats, and Good Luck in your successful career!

Hay Wallie how is it going.
What has been Mentioned is Very True. For You NCOs you will be there an extra Week, for an NCO Refresher course. Once you Graduate WTC you will go over to F-Battery. You will like it there after being in WTC.

This is great info to have....the updated kind. Any and all recent graduates would be doing all us future hopefuls a service by posting all info like this so we have it up to date. It's a true bonus to have such views and facts of WTC posted on recent experience basis.

Hey zoniman !! How was the extra week at Fox Battery?? I'm getting settled back into life at home. That's probably the one big advantage of being National Guard. WTC was definitly an experience. Like I said on the earlier post, it was only as hard as I made it...I should get my MOS school pretty soon, and I made E-4 when I got back to my unit. It's all good, right SGT J??

wpdw2 out !!
