Since I had posted a few questions on here (thanks to all for your answers/feedback) I figured I should let you know that I had my physical today through my state's medical unit and am back in the saddle.

Even though my basic training was Air Force, I still won't go to WTC (the state's choice, not mine) for now. I have to call my new unit next week and see if I can get them to set up a date for my 25B training and what I need to do about uniform issue and other things.

Happy to be back and Beer to my brother and sister soldiers!!

Were you Army Guard in the past? I was in the Army Guard after transferring from the Air Guard prior to WTC. My state seems to want to 'grandfather' me in even though I'd prefer to go so I have at least the basic combat skills of my fellow 'keyboard ranger' soldiers. Baffles my mind too that I wouldn't go but it is what it is--so far. That said, the process so far has been with my recruiter. Perhaps my unit will have a different opinion.

That is not a break in service young lad, I got out of the Navy in 1987, and just went into the Guard last April. Just two months shy of 20 years break in service.

States technically do not have the option to not send a new soldier to WTC. Army regs are very clear about WTC. Until those regs are changed, States will continue to be notified that soldiers A and B have to attend WTC, even though they have served in the State for 4 years now. It is happening all over the country. Its no wonder Recruiters are so dense about WTC.

As I understand it, ALL prior service Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard will attend WTC, regardless of break in service. All Army and Marine prior service are exempt as long as they successfully completed BCT and have not had a break in service of more than three years. I think this last part is what is nailing most Guard soldiers now. At promotion time the Guard sees that the soldier was ouot for >3 years and the soldier is required to attend WTC, but didnt.

My guess is in the old days a PS Army or Marine were not required to do any form of BCT no matter the length of break in service. But I have heard of PS soldiers going back through BCT but that was a long time ago.

This problem is confronting my wife right now. She joined OKNG last month (68W, former FMF Corpsman in the Navy) and was told there were no WTC slots available. When she drilled with her unit this past weekend they wanted her to get ready to deploy next year. Today she was told "they have no WTC slots for her in 2008, she'll have to wait until 2009 and she can't deploy"
