I was in the Navy from 1987-1991. After being out for 18 years would I have to go to Basic Training or would I go to WTC?

Prior Army and Marine, with less than 3 yr break in service, skip WTC, go straight to AIT.

Longer break? It's a toss up. You'll read prior service (PS) reports that some have and some have not gone to WTC.

PS Navy or Air Force? WTC and, for most, loss of a stripe. Majority have lost a stripe but this is not written in stone.

Good luck. Work on your PT, especially the run. Don't feed anyone the "when I was in..." or "that's not how we did it..." line. No one cares. Take the best of your prior service experience and make a contribution to your new service. Set the example for the kids and if you're an NCO, act like it. Learn the NCO creed and take some of the load off the cadre. Step up and be squared away. Both the cadre and the kids will respect that.

Thanks for the info Marine64. I am PS Navy. The recruiter has been telling me that I would be able to stay E-4. Will take that with a grain of salt untill I actually sign the papers and have it in writing.

Hey 16557972 welcome to the Army. I'm PS Army and have been out since 1987 and I'm going to WTC, also I lost one rank and going back as a PFC/E-3 if it happens don't worry you won't be that rank very long.

PS Navy 88-91. Just back from WTC. Keep E-4. Not a hard course. Just get into shape and you will do great. Good Luck.

I was out 16yrs Marine Corps SGT(P) out in 1991 joined the Army Nov-07 as a SPC/E-4 made SSG/E-6 in a 1-1/2. Best thing I ever did after leaving the Military reurning!
