Hello,

I am a prior service AF joining the Army. I have an appointment this Thursday at Sacramento MEPS and I am concern about my weight. When do they get your height and weight? at Meps? My recruiter never address this issue to me, I need to ask him tomorrow. I need to lose about 15 lbs, I need to be 174 (according to army req for prior service), now do i need to be 174 before swearing in or before shipping out to WTC?

Since your prior service I suspect that swearing in and shipping is the same day since there is no DEP program for prior service, that I am aware of.

You need to make weight before he can enlist you (I think they still say Access you).

15 lbs they might let slide until ship date.....not sure. A lot of Army Recruiters have a scale in their office before they blow a MEPS appointment.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. Hopefully he'll slide me in, hehe =). It's funny though that he never measured my height and weight and I'm all set for Thursday. I know I can lose 15 lbs easy, Just need to do more cardio. Ill keep you all updated, if you want. Thanks

i went to the army from the navy. i did the blue to green program to have no break in service. i had a seperation physical so when i went to MEPS i didnt have to do ANY medical stuff.

but if you had a break in service then im guessing you need to do all the MEPS medical stuff again.

but i would talk to yhe recruiter and ask if it will hold you up etc. usually they can be flexable.

I will touch on the Weight Question. If you do the Medical Part... they will get your weight there. If you are over weight... they will Tape test you. Thats where the Measure your Waist and Neck for size. I had to do it. I was 10 pounds over but taped in fine.

so long as you are 24% or UNDER total body fat you will be fine.

same day shipping from mepps isnt common from all Ive heard out of the recruiting station. generally you have a couple weeks before you are in your date for WTC.

I had to do my MEPS stuff all over again in 1984 after a transfer from NG to Army. It's probably Active Component thing with no break in service......I have no clue though.

I do know the IRR checked my Medical once every 3 years while I was in the IRR in the late 1980's to early 1990's.

They do not do Height/Weight at WTC. I am not sure why, my cadre said that was just not one of the things they do. I lost nearly 20 lbs while there, so if you start now eating right and exercising, you will be in great shape when you leave! Good luck!!

I just managed my first full two mile run today! Did it in 24:08. So now I just have to shave off about 8 minutes. I'm also contending with the flat feet issue and shin splints. I find the more I work lightly and take days off instead of daily hard charging it gets a lil better. I think once the small muscles and tendons are worked well and strengthened I will make leaps and bounds in running. Weight is coming off slower than I want even with decent eating but there's no stopping me now! Hooah!

@ Siewilliams,
are you using the motion control sneakers to help with the running? I have flat feet and get the shin splints from running if I use anything other than motion control sneakers. check into the Brooks or Asics as they have proven to extremely reliable to me. Don't be surprised if you knock off another 2 minutes alone just by using the right sneakers.

I got decent running shoes, Saucony brand. I been keeping up with Runner's World and other running websites. I found stretching is evil but your friend. STRETCH! It's so helpful! I shaved two minutes off my time. Ran a 2 mile in 24:08. Tested again a week later and ran it in 21:53. HOOAH! Today I'll have a stregth workout with weights and only run a warm up. Tomorrow rest up. Its VERY important to let your muscles recover by resting them.

I re-enlisted from the ARNG to Active Duty. I did not swear in, however I think that is due to not shipping until 24 July.

If anyone has a weight issue and is willing to do anything non life threatening to get there PM me. I had to lose 20 pounds or 5% in under a month. I did it in about 3 weeks. Be it not all permanent, but at least I made it in and now have time to PT right.

Because of the number of PM's I am getting on this I thought I would post this on here. Especially since some of the PM's have come from privae member which don't allow reply's.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor so please choose to follow the diet/ or not follow the diet on your own. I don't think a doctor would recommend, this diet, or any diet that does not follow the food pyramid. This is what I did to get into Active Duty. It may not be the right thing for everyone.

Some may think it's kind of drastic but it works and I lost 20 pounds and was able to make tape in approx. 3 weeks. The diet part is easy I followed the weight watchers diet (no meetings) I think a 2000 calorie diet would work also. The deal is with the weight watchers diet allowed me to eat almost anything within my points. For me I was allowed 33 points @215 pounds. To put it in perspective 33 points equals 2 footlong oven roasted chicken breast subs from subway minus cheese and sauce (12 points each ), 3 Grilled Steak Tacos Fresco Style no cheese/sauce (3 points each). That is a lot of food. I have done it and lost the weight.

Now the slightly drastic part: with a epson flush/day I was able to lose at least a pound a day. I only did this short term, till I lost the weight. The epson flush, for me, included 30-60 grams of epson salt (the more I used the more you flush, which also means the worst it tastes. I used 8 ounces of pure grapefruit juice (which could be bought in a can) and 8 ounces of water. I have also used gatorade (G20, has less calories) in the mix. Splenda to taste, in my case at least 8 table spoons. I watched the calories because they count toward daily weight watchers points. The taste to me is like the first sip of a really strong poured bitter alcoholic drink; everytime. I drank it as cold s possible and as quick as possible. I did this this before bed, because it produced bowel movements (#2) within a few hours x a couple times.

The recruiters turned me on to it as a fast way to lose weight. The called it a "man shake", but they put way too much epson salt in their shake which caused me to go out both ends within 45 minutes at the local Wal-Mart.

http://www.dietandfitnesstoday.com/foodSearch.php here is a website that calculates nutritional facts according to the weight of the food.

http://www.webmilhouse.com/pointcalc.php after getting the Calories, Fat and Dietary fiber from the side of the box or link from above this website helps to calculate the weight watcher points.

Aslong as I watched what I ate and counted points I lost the weight I needed. I added in exercising with a sauna suit and lost more weight
