What are the weekend schedules like?
Besides the PT test and rifle qual, what else will be required of Soldiers to pass at WTC? Has a Soldier ever been promoted at WTC due to performing exceptionally well? |

Good one Oldervet, although you are usually spot on, I have to say I disagree on this one thing! ! the civies I wore here I washed while here. There shows to be NO ability to wear civvies while here. I will ship in my ACU's and carry the ONE set I wore here (so as not to be nekid on the trip here) back home in a bag. If I brought 2 set of civvies I would be carrying 2 set of civvies home. The one set I believe is sufficient the less you bring, the less you carry!?! When you show up here for check in it may be late at night and you have to carry the things you bring accross the battallion and store it with your issued uniforms in a single small wall locker. |

We were able to leave the base during reception. So, extra civvies made sense.

10-4 Oldervet, maybe one day that was so, now it is PX ONLY, not allowed to leave base in any way shape or form. Surely the few must have messed it up for the many, so now it is on base ACU's only.

Yes, its usually that way. I recall thinking how odd it was that the 95th just sorta let us off when the day was over, had a weekend off too. But, we are all prior service so there really shoudl be no reason to lock us down. There are always these problems on every post. Just look at Ft. Lewis and its new issues with murder???
Just keep driving on soldier. |

I just graduated on 18FEB09 my class was the first official class to be at FT Sill. The class which graduated on 11FEB09 was in a battery that had already functioned as WTC. Our class was in a learning phase not only for us but for the Cadre as well, this was the first WTC class for E 1/79. Cadre were constantly reminding themselves that we were not privates because they were not use to WTC. The weekends were almost none existent. Keep in mind that the course is only 4 weeks and 3 days therefore the training is condensed into a small amount of time. A couple of weekends we only had around four hrs on sunday to be on pass. Furthermore, the pass was only a brigade pass not a post pass (meaning you can't go to the big PX or the Bowling alley, you had to stay on this side of the tracks.) Don't get me wrong, we did go to the big PX however, it was all dictated on how the battery did all week. Sunday for sure you will be able to go to the big PX, sometimes at 0800 or 0900, and sometimes not until 1300. One just has to live with it. If there is any good advise I could give any of you still waiting to go to WTC is to communicate become a platoon right away. Communication is the key to success in this course. The platoon needs to be one cohesive unit. Don't be late and do the weapons count correctly...LOL!
As far as electronics, we had people bring their laptops, ipods, cell phones and stuff, they were authorized, however, don't be surprised if you are not able to use them everyday. Somedays Cadre will just surprise you and give you RBI's that have to be turned in at morning formation. Be patient and do not loose your military bearing. We had a SPC (E-4) who told a Cadre to F-off! and he was almost going to face Article 15 charges. Needless to say he is still an E-4 and was an Honor Grad for graduation. If you are wondering how that happened, there were other factors that led to the outburst and the issue was resolved in house. Overall, listen to the Cadre, I promise you that they will treat you as prior service members if you just do what you are told and when you are told. Cadre will joke around with you and you will have fun, just make sure that you are respectful to them and do the right thing. Ok, enough of the soapbox. I hope I was able to at least bring some clarity to the already confused masses. I will be more than glad to answer any specific q's that you may have and tell you what our platoon did to make things work. Good luck to all that are preparing to leave to WTC keep up with your PT that will prevent you from getting injured once you are there. SPC Saenz |

aztecgolfer78 has given you all an honest and fair assessment of the course. You're in WTC to train and learn the skills, not party, go out, enjoy the warm weather... YOU'RE HERE TO BECOME AN ARMY SOLDIER, OR FOR SOME REFRESH YOUR SKILLS!
The cadre attempt to treat you as permanent party, but due to a few, there are policies in place due to Soldiers acting out, or causing trouble. The faster your class get in the mind set, and do the training, the faster you can enjoy some of those privileges. |

Greetings everyone. I'm prior Marine Corps (0331) I received a medical discharge while at School of Infantry back in '01. Since I was med dropped before graduating I'm technically a basic marine. I'm re-enlisting 11x, would I go WTC then go AIT and then go to a line company or go straight to the line? Thank you and good luck everyone and Godspeed - Ryan out

I have a Desert Boots Question. I haven't seen it asked anywhere so sorry if it is a repeat or bad question.
I would like to arrive with a pair of boots somewhat broken in. Where would be a good place to purchase some before WTC? Can I have the recruiter pick up a pair from the local military base? I am still in DEP and not in a Guard unit or anything. |

SPC Saenz, you are everywhere! I remember the soldier you are talking about telling cadre to "blank" off!!! He was in my platoon! Still trying to figure that out. You made some great points about the course. Definately true on getting up to speed or as much as possible on PT... you don't want to get hurt while you are there, and many people do. It's fast paced. PAY attention and always do what you are supposed to. The cadre will leave you alone for the most part as long as you do. Please, if you really don't need to go to sick call, don't!! Missed training will have to be made up and it's alot easier to suck it up and just do it.
Good luck! I heard things are going to be tightened up even more than when we were there! Glad I went through when I did! |

My advise is to not buy anything prior to getting there. You will get an issue within the first couple of days at the 95th and you will have the opportunity to break them in while at the 95th. However, do buy the insoles that are recommended they cost about $30 but they are well worth it and your feet will thank you in the 3,5,8 K's rucks. Trust me. But then again its your money. I'd go for the free pair of boots from the 95th.

That's good advise and I will definitely get the insoles at the very least. I just remember when I was in the Guard soooo many years ago, I bought a pair of boots on base that were much more comfortable than the standard issue pair. I was hoping to find some like that.

Is there a Combat Life Saver course?
If so, can someone give some info on it? Thanks! |

There is a CLS course, it's about a week and that is the only class that you will have a 40 Q's exam. Don't worry it is not that difficult, all you have to do is stay awake and pay attention in the class and you will do just fine on the exam. However, be prepared to stick and be stuck with a saline lock, that truly sucks. We all have to do it, they are making it a requirement for graduation. My class did the CLS course toward the end of the course. The coolest part of the CLS course is when you get to go to the woods and do all of the carries and actually apply the knowledge you have just received. That was fun.

How was the rifle range? Is it rushed or is there an understanding that some have been out of the service for awhile and need some refreshing?
The CLS don't sound too bad, but man I hate needles...lol. |

I'm not sure if I have to attend WTC or not. I am a prior service Marine who got out in 2007. I even took my MOS school training at Ft. Leonard Wood. I was told that it was possible to get my job training waived. Is this true?
