I just enlisted into the NG last Wednesday after 19 years of separating from the AF. I am 43 yrs old and can meet the PT requirements for my age group. But because of age differences, are us old types separated from the young bucks during PT?
When I was at MEPS, I felt as if I was the oldest person there. I was wondering if you knew the percentage of those my age coming back in. I feel like I am going to be the only Grey-beard there.
Alright everyone. I am back after a short stint(sp) of absence. I have been monitoring these threads for the last month or two and can no longer handle NOT responding. I left this thread bacause of family members and Soldiers who have recently graduated WTC "bad-mouthing" the program and making unsubstantiated accusations. I will not entertain or comment on those types of things. Any issues of that nature will have to be addressed with the chain of command directly. I will provide stats of the current class as well as updates and their progress/answer questions. Ask away.
I will only be here for the next class and then on to something else. My time as a Drill Sergeant/WTC instructor is winding down!
Rakkasan, I like the idea of not being able to open new topics an just have one for all questions. Trying to keep track of all the topics was kind of tedious. Great job!

I wasn't making a comment to be separated, but asking the question if we were separated do to different PT requirements. I do not want to be separated from the group. I plan on "out-doing" the younger guys.
Nobody will be separated. The only separation is the different scoring standards. Everyone will do PT together, train together, eat together, etc. The only thing that won't be done together is "night-night" time.

I'm 43 as well and will be going back into Active Duty after being out for 16 years. When I was at MEPS the first time, there were 4 of us old farts there if that helps any.
The course is actually a nice refresher course. I think people look further into it then they really should. PT is PT and there is no way around it. The sad part is people don't look at it for what it really is...getting in shape and feeling good. PT is not meant to deter anyone from joining the armed forces. PT is there to keep you healthy and safe for more than just your military career, but in general as well. As long as each soldier heads into this with a positive attitude there will be a fun and exciting experience ahead of you. Don't forget...there is much knowledge being crammed in a short period of time. Cadre do not have time to play games and think about who they want to screw with. There is no conspiracy in the program or any training for that matter. Welcome back to all of those who decided that there is no place like home. We are all brothers for life and will fight to keep this country safe together.
I was hoping to gain some insight into the type of orders that are issued to WTC. I am USNR, enlisting in USAR, perhaps this week. I assume when I enlist at MEPS I will be given a billet/slot for WTC. I then would drill with my reserve unit until then(?). When my slot(date) gets closer I would be issued orders for ACDUTRA? AT? ADSW? I predict that they would have a "reporting time & date". Is there an end date on the orders? How is this handled. Curious as to my civilian employer's reaction if I submit open ended request for leave of absence. Anyone go through similar experience?
Also second small question: Does the USAR have something called HYT (high year tenure). That means if you are a E-5 for example, if you don't make E-6 within 15 years you are kicked out.
The army has RCP (retention control point) which has been altered for WTC/prior service personnel. I don't have the specs or details on that but your recruiter should have easy access to it for you.

LOL, I guess there are a lot of us "old farts" thinking about the same thing... I really miss the life and the retirement isn't looking too bad either....

Roger that... Looking forward to the experience and getting started in a new career.
I'm not sure if this is for Prior Service, just mere coincidence I came across it looking up the link to the Military Pay for someone on the Army Forums (so you should still ask your Recruiter and reference the specific ALARACT message number in the article)
Thank you. I am going to MEPS this week armed with a DD368 (conditional release). Looking to sign for 88K and hopefully $15,000 bonus for six years USAR/E-6. Still curious about the type of orders that are issued for WTC. Appreciate the feedback.
