I'm curious, what it this and how does it apply to those of us Prior Service guys going into the Army?

If you are going active duty I believe it increases the bonus you receive if you take one of those jobs. I've been planning on joining the Reserves as a 96B for a while now, so I'm glad to see it on the list, but according to my reserve recruiter it doesn't really help me with it being on the Priority MOS List because... Well I'm only going into the Reserves.

Oh ok, I understand. That's good because two of the MOS's that I have picked as options are on there. Topo Analysis and Prime Power

Is it sad that most of our critical areas are ones having to deal with combat? Weaklings

I'm not sure what you mean by "most" having to deal with combat. They are all Army positions, and so all have something to do with combat, either operations or support. If we take everything from 11B-37F (and exclude the 18 series) thats 19 of 30 that are direct combat positions, and of those 19, 9 of them "cannot be considered due to a lack of available training". Which means there aren't enough training slots (ie their traning centers are running at 100%) open to fit people into. Nothing sad or weak about that.

Wow, 19D is Armor in the Army right if so my 1833 MOS from the Marine Corps should apply right. Along with some of my special schools like Advanced Vehicle Unit Leader for Sgt's and SNCO's

19D is calvary scout | |||

No, what I ment was my Marine Corps MOS 1833 AAV's should allow me to move over to 19D in the Army or at least help me in obtaining that MOS if I chose to go back in that direction. I was thinking 19D or 31B because of my Law Enforcement experience after leaving the Marine Corps and the fact I will be coming back in from that field. But I see its locked out at this time maybe not by the time I get to MEPD.

1833 does not transfer to any Army Armor MOS. At least it did not for me........ might be different for you.....

There's always room for one more. I'm returning as 31B. If they have an opening in an MOS that relates to your previous experience and they don't need to fully re-train you that's where they will send you. My Air Force training was discountinued even before my tech school ended. I was scheduled to complete one school only to turn around and head back to school for the equipment that had replaced my current job. So the Army looked at the nearest comparable MOS and said, ok what do you want to do?

You can take a Marine Corps Tanker from the same time period as me who drove the M60A1 and send him to Tanker School now for the M1 and he will do fine if not better than anyone in the class with no Tanker time. I have special schools in my SRB for the types of missions the Bradley performs. I know I have a lot of catch up to do on a new vehicle, weapon system and other areas if I go back Armor. I am sure the Army will look at my two main experiences in life after High School “Armor & Police w/Specialized Training” which is all I have really wanted to do as far as MOS’s. If I can’t get one of those two MOS’s I may have to go with my other offer from another service. Or I will just wait till there is an opening or class slot to go.

I asked the following question online to the Army Recruiting Command: Message: Does my Marine MOS of "1833 Amphbious Vehicle Crewman" translate into any Army MOS such as 19D or 11H? Or do I have to attend MOS retraining. I think there is a computer program recruiters have to look for MOS conversions. They replied back with: Rob, Thank you for your service to our great nation. Your ability to serve again will need to be determined. I can help guide you through this process; however I will need you to take a few minutes to complete and return the questionnaire below. This will better enable me to review your options and determine your enlistment eligibility. I did check the service converter data base and an 1833 was not listed. What that means is that you likely would be sent to retrain in a new MOS prior to arriving at your duty station. To begin the process of reviewing your enlistment qualifications and options, please take a moment to complete and return the questionnaire below. It is essential that you provide accurate information for each question (including juvenile offenses regardless of court information). Providing inaccurate information prevents you from knowing your true eligibility to enlist. Additionally, all enlistees undergo an FBI background investigation; which means inaccurate information will ultimately be revealed. Please answer all questions to the best of your ability to prevent you from the possibility of being discreditably discharged from the Army at a later date. If you are not serious about finding out your options or determining your enlistment eligibility please do not fill out the questionnaire below. Providing the information below will not obligate you to anything, it simply assists in helping me determine what opportunities may await you in the United States Army or Army Reserve. Respectfully, Mr. Kenneth Henderson Cyber Recruiter United States Army Recruiting Command kenneth.henderson@usarec.army.mil BREAK: 1833 is not a transferable MOS into any Army job. You will have to attend an AIT to transfer to an Armor MOS if that is what you want.

The only two MOS's I am looking at are MP and Armor. I am ready to attend any AIT for which ever MOS. I hope there is a Bonus for each MOS which ever I can get into or perfer. Leaning more toward Armor and will check into that once at MEPS. My wife hates the idea of me going back to an Armor field because of wher the Armor units are posts.
