This is for everybody out there that thinks the active Army is over staffed and they can't get in. A little shot of hope that I hope keeps everyone motivated to join. I did my ASVAB and physical the week of April 20th. I originally was told that I would have to wait for my med waiver by my recruiter until after my over 40 physical. Well, my recruiter called today and said he recieved my OK TO PROCESS ORDERS!! Which, according to him, means after I pass my over 40 physical, I am a SOLDIER. How incredible is that!!! I sincerely hope that everybody that is reading this has as much luck as I did and can can become a Soldier also. Just for your info, I got out of the Marines after 8 years in in 1991 with a RE-3 reenlistment code and 10% disability. I had to have one med waiver and no morale waivers. Good luck to you all and WTC I am coming to kick your butt!!!!

Yes I am 44 and will be 45 this year. I started the process in February and, it took until April for me to get a waiver and an ok to physical.

UPDATE:

So I went yesterday for my over 40 physical. That consists of a prostate exam, optical tonometry test for glaucoma, an EKG and I had to fast overnight for the blood work. Yes, they make you fast so they can get accurate blood glucose levels. They also check your blood for good and bad cholesterol levels amoung a few other things. I was told when my blood work comes back next week,I can sign on the digital line. There were a couple of prior service guys at MEPS and they were both going into special forces by choice so,they never asked for a chance to see what the active Army was offering. I will let you know next week when I go. The Army job counselor at MEPS said they are soon to be cutting off prior service for Army. He said the same rumor came out about no more GED's. Next thing you know BAM they were cut off. So stay on your recruiter's butt to get you processed ASAP! Good luck to you all!!

BIGTALIKILLER, so I'm reading your posts and just wanted to inform you of a few things; I myself am a 36 year old prior service army. After a 6 year break I decided to re-join the ranks of the army. I started to do my packet 10/14/08 here in Florida but the recruiters here I guess are too lazy to process prior service waivers. They say that it is too much work and that it take valuable time that they can use towards new recruits; imagine that! I called a Command Sergeant Major (CSM) that I was stationed with years back and he put me in touch with recruiters out of El Paso, TX. By this time I had already lost 1 1/2 months dealing w/ Florida recruiters. My packet was handed back to me and I promptly forwarded it to El Paso (12/03/08) I needed an RE Code 3 waiver, grade determination waiver and suitability review. My packet finaly got approved 04/23/09. Went from SSG/E-6 to SPC/E-4. As far as your comment about prior service picking Special Forces and not looking at what else the army is offering well let me tell you that you will get these choices: 11X (infantry) and 89D (Explosives Ordinance Disposal)! As far as 18X Special Forces goes, well quite frankly your too old and so am I. The cut off age is 30. Also, they allowed me to take option 04 which is airborne training but again your too old. So if you think that you will have choices once you get to MEPS well think again! 11 Bang, Bang or fingerless E.O.D., take your pick. I ship out for WTC Aug 03/09 so maybe we will see eachother there and then off to Infantry school we go for the lack of choice. "NEEDS OF THE ARMY" means just what it implies!
