Hello, this is my first post on this.. I just palace chased from AD to the Reserves in Oklahoma City. My intention was to go to school, but I was released to late for sign up, and unfortunately had a hard time finding a job and have been forced to move to my mothers in Montana to support my family for the time being.

Problem is, the cost for me to fly to Oklahoma City and work, is atleast double what my weekend pay will be. And I have found a job that will pay me $150k to go to Iraq for one year. I'm accepting the job, but having a hard time with the Reserve Unit. They said because I'm Palace Chase, "I'm different". I really need to accept this job, it will help me, my wife and son setup our future. We will pay off all of our debt and have enough money saved to go to school w/out having to work..

Please, if anybody could help tell me my options, it will be GREATLY appreciated..

I also Palace Chased, although it was a long time ago, and if things are still somewhat the same (and I think they are) your unit is correct. Part of the agreement with the AF to let you out early and go to the guard / reserves was that you would fulfill your side of the contract and that is meet all of your drill requirements. If not, they technically could send you back to AD to finish out your time. Also, keep in mind you told the AF you would finish your committment and now are asking to get out altogether. To them, their is no benefit. You may be able to ask to go to IRR during the time you work in Iraq and promise to come back to the unit after that. I see them more likely to approve that then let you out altogether. This leaves them with some benefit as it essentially just freezes your time as it is today and starts again when you get back. We have had people in our unit due this and it was approved fairly easily (although they were not Palace Chase).

Long story short, check into going IRR for the year and promising to come back to your unit. I think this would be your best option and also provides benefit to the AFR. keep in mind, you are an investment to them that they put a great deal of time and money into. Good luck.
